Hey all,

Looking to snag something traditional, I got an email from a vendor and they had something that caught my eye (the Northwoods fremont). Unfortuantly I missed out on them, and the only ones left in stock are stag versions which is a bit more than im wanting to pay for my first traditional.

What I like : wharncliff blades

I dont think I would want something that is multiple blades as I have no need for it. I want something that is quality (ie. good centering) etc. and am wondering what you guys recommend in the ball park of 120 and lower.

Thanks all!
Nader

I like the same blade style (A variety really) and have gotten into traditionals lately. The one in my cart that I will be buying from KnivesShip Free is the GEC #72 wharncliffe. There are some others such as the swayback jack by case or #47 Viper by GEC too. The #72 just seemed attractive to me (I scrolled through every knife they had in stock by GEC, Canal, Northwoods, and a few of the other traditional brands.

I do like that one, a lot actually (#72. Wish they had more variety in terms of handle material.
Hows quality on GECs? The viper #47 is also nice, if they had the stag model in stock I would be all over it.

You can't go wrong with GEC. They make very nice knives. The micarta scales make for a great user knife. I do not have one but, I have heard more than once that the Case Swayback Jack has a bit nicer F&F than most of the other Case knives.

Get a GEC Viper. There are some in stag out there. For example, Derrick Bohn (www.knivesshipfree.com), who is a BF dealer, has them in stock (both burnt stag and natural stag) ;)

Missed them on the site! Thought they were out of stock. I like the looks...but for example the fit and finish on the blade looks like it has some pitting/scratches? : http://www.knivesshipfree.com/great...eld-un-x-ld-viper-natural-stag-serialized-53/

Also, how does 1095 hold up on these? Im not steel snob but I like a steel that is low maintanance and wouldnt want this to rust on me.

With 1095 make sure to keep a film of oil on it. Patina helps leaps and bounds for rust protection.
