So my first two traditionals are lock backs, the Boker was an impulse buy after seeing MT Damascus's the other day. What can I say, I'm a sucker for damascus. My next traditional will be a slip joint, and smaller than these. I'm looking at a GEC Pemberton #6 as a possibility. And I'm still looking to having a custom made once I learn some more about traditionals. Anyway, on to these babies.

The first is a Schatt & Morgan File & Wire Mountain Man in Antelope bone and D2 steel blade. 3 1/2" blade. They used to be made in ATS-34 and some of those are still available. The second knife is a Boker Fellow Lockback with Ebony wood scales and Devon Thomas SS Basketweave damascus blade (1078 layers). The blade is absolutely stunning, the prettiest and most dimensional of any damascus I own; better photos will be forthcoming. Or check out MT Damascus's photos, which are superb.

The knives are similar in fit and finish, both have absolutely zero blade play and lock up like a vault. The S&M's blade is ever so slightly off center, but hardly noticeable. Both have a nice heft and balance in the hand. They are larger than most of my knives, most of which have 3" blades, but that makes sense as they are perfectly sized for outdoor cutting, and yet each fits in my watch pocket.

Both knives are sharp as the Dickens out of the box. I've heard that Bokers can run hot and cold in their F&F but this model is on the mark. I have no experience with the American traditionals, but S&M has set a high standard if this knife is an example.

Well, now to cut some stuff. But first, below are some quickly taken photos. Thanks to all who provided advice on traditionals: it is all being factored into my purchases, if not now, then in the future.

Very nice Locutus, a drop of oil on the blade of the Boker will make it easier to photo, IME. Thanks for sharing.

That's a great start right there Locutus:thumbup:
Tha Queen Mountain Man is at the top of my hit list right now. That Boker is a fine looking knife!
Thanks for sharing.

Very nice choices. I like that Boker.

Thank you Peregrin. It is definitely making me broker :)

My wife has put the kibosh on my buying anymore knives for a while. I told her that buying traditionals was honoring her father (RIP), but that didn't work out.

Very nice choices. I like that Broker.
