I'm amazed by the wealth of information and experience on these forums, and I appreciate all who are providing counsel to those of us who are new to this passion. Having said that, I offer my first two for your critique...I have a friend who is teaching me.
Original design, sparked by a Bark River Fox...
Overall dimensions (2 knives): (what I originally had in mind)
9 1/2" length
1 1/2" width
5 1/2" scale length - G10 or linen micarta
3/16" hollow ground on #1 - carbon steel, 1095, O1 or something similar
3/32" convex on #2 - stainless, 154CM or similar
Followed closely by several modifications:
After several changes of source material, what I ended up with:
1/4" D2 and 3/32" ATS-34 (these are what my teacher had on hand)
Here's the initial cut and grind:
Here they are fresh from the oven!
Here you can see the tapered tang and hollow grinds of #1:
Here the flats are done down to 15 micron paper, about to work on the blade surfaces. My teacher's work is on the left...it's a older Damascus folder.
He's checking my work.
All epoxied and ready for finishing. This is about 15 hours of work so far.
