I just finished my first two Damascus knives. I tried out a couple different guard styles and handle contours. One knife is Alabama Damascus "Redneck Skin" with stabilized mesquite burl, g10 spacers, and a stainless guard, OAL 9 inches. The other is a piece of twist that I picked up from Hankins in the BF exchange, with a stainless/copper/stainless guard and stabilized juniper burl, OAL 8.5 inches.

Jason, I prefer the bottom piece. Looks like it would make a very nice utility/fixed blade carry. Comfortable looking handle, nicely shaped guard and blade which all together look to give the user nice control and power for all types of tasks. Looks appealing too.

The guard and ricasso area look a little 'off' to me on the first piece.

Do you plan to make your own Damascus at some point?

Those look really nice! Nice copper accent. I agree Kevin number two looks comfy.

I agree. I actually went ahead and sold that first one rather than take it to the guild show. The guard is shorter than I wanted, and doesn't curve enough on the back side. The whole thing might be OK with that long ricasso, if I had gone with a thicker guard, IMO.

As far as Damascus, yes, eventually, but not for a while. I'm working on the guild deal now (judging for probationary at the show in a few weeks), and I may shoot for JS after that, but am not set up with any forging equipment currently.
