Hey Guys! So I just received my First CRK knife last week and just got my ZT 550 in the mail today. Some thoughts..... WOW this Umnumzaan is just GORGEOUS! absolute perfection!!! It's just a work of art and just simply beautiful construction. As stated this is my first CRK and I am very happy with this purchase, at first was very hesitant to fork out over 300 for a blade but wow is it worth it! Only hit I'd have to give to mine is the frame lock is really hard to close and it like rips the skin off my fingertip :( or it digs really deep in... dunno how I can fix that but closing it is pretty hard.

As for the ZT this is such a beautiful YET beefy blade! The deployment is just silky smooth and frame lock is sooo easy to close unlike my Umnumzaan. One question is why in the WORLD is the ZT box SO BIG?!?! It's not even reasonable to have such a big box when the knife only takes up like 1/4 of the box. Nonetheless Good job ZT/Hinderer for this collaboration. Simply an awesome knife! Now time to snag a 560 with the flipper! :) I'm hooked on ZT but once I get enough funds I shall grab a hinderer!

What are you thoughts on these knives? And do you so happen to own either one? Would love to see your knives! :) I will upload pics in a sec, need to learn how to :P

damn i need a new camera hahaha. you have really stepped up your collection as of late. congrats for that.

i currently have one zaan and another will be arriving shortly. excellent knives!

now a large seb 21 (or regular) should be on your list. that or my m390 mule hahaha.

and as for disengaging the lock, don't use the tip of your thumb!! at first it seems tough to close but believe me you get used to it and it becomes (painless) second nature.

Those are indeed on my list, but man... this hobby is hard to keep up with as a college student w/ a part time job :( I am very jealous of all you who can afford these expensive knives in a instant :( (but i guess a pro for me would be I have no bills, except my tuition to pay for hahahaha :P)

Congrats on the awesome knives, they'll serve you well. The lock should get easier to disengage over time. When I first got my Umnum, it was as you said painful. Now, not so much and I can close it with out putting too much thought into the effort.

Yeah these last few months have been rough for me. I took an unexpected layoff in November and have been collecting unemployment until I go back next month. The only thing keeping me in the game is selling off old knives to fund new ones. I'm stoked to go back to work and get some new folders.

How's the F&F on the ZT? (i've never owned one)..

Sorry to hear about the layoff :( Can't wait till you get your job back! And yea I'm just seem to be on a trend of picking up a new folder every week or 2.... not good hahaha and what is F&F, still in the process of learning knife terms and even about knives themselves! :)

Push down and out with the center pad of your thumb straddling the lock bar tab ;)

F&F = fit and finish. no worries.

IMO i think the fit and finish is awesome and just great overall. Just with the g-10 I kinda wished it had a little bit more traction cause I have some sweaty hands sometimes and its slippery sometimes.

I chose a Wilson Combat 'StarTac' version of the CRK 'zaan to commemorate my first SS retirement payment. I had owned my ZT-0301, my first ZT, for a while then - great knife, too - but that CRK - wow!

I've since added two ZT-0551s, which I carry far more often, and a new S35VN Nyala and plain small Sebenza since then. While the 0551 has replaced the 0301 as my favorite ZT, the Umnumzaan is my favorite CRK knife.
