I have always had a soft spot for slip joint folders. I recently finished my first pair. This was not an easy task. I got some pointers and this pattern from Claude Montjoy.
I recently had a couple of operations to remove a brain tumor that wound up being benign. After this life changing event, I have changed my perspective on knifemaking and want make a some of the knives that I have been putting off for years. So bare with me while I try to interact on this forum as I try to gain more knowledge about the traditional patterns.
I hope you enjoy my first attempt and let me know what you are looking for in a slip joint folder. There are some great makers on this forum, so I know that I have my work cut out for me.
Enjoy,
BB

If that's your first attempt at a slipjoint. . . . .WOW. . . .and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your slipjoint work.

Welcome here and welcome back, Bobby. Nice. I'll look forward to seeing your progress with slipjoints. (And glad you decided to take 'em on.):cool:

Great looking knife. You certainly didn't take the easy road for your first traditional knife. I love the blade shape.....reminds of me of the Loveless City Knife folder.

As a personal preference, I think having the maker's mark on the blade like that detracts from the overall knife.

This is a very fine knife and I'm excited to see if you do anything else with this pattern. Would it be possible to get some stats on this one?

Hi,

If that's a first attempt, WOW! You truly have a gift. I am glad you have over come your health issues.

It actually took me twenty five years of knifemaking to learn how to do that.
I want to try some traditional single blade patterns first before I start doing more interframes.

Welcome to this neck of the woods...the more the merrier.

Although I tend to like more traditional looking slip joints, your work is really clean. I was wondering how you kept the blade from rapping the spring because the kick is virtually on the same plane as the edge of the blade.

This is a tough crowd but we are a folksy bunch of fun loving people. :D
