its a browning field duty extreme. as i understand tops made a batch of several different knives for browning to sell under the browning name. a little different than the tracker. notably the spine and sheath.

i had been wanting a wsk for a while, and received this as a gift yesterday.

i havent seen many of the browning versions.

I like the shape of that ALOT better than the TOPS version. Whats the steel and thickness on it?

what do you hold when you draw the knife? pinch the blade? it's certainly much better looking.

im not sure. i guess you could hold the handle normally and draw. i was actually thinking of rounding that a bit so i could use put my hand on the spine for push cuts and such.

Interesting Design I dont know if i like the draw knife,

Please Let us know how it works for you!!

I am anxious to see it used in the field.

Congrats on a neat gift.

It would be nice to see the knife built with a flat there instead of the sharp spine. It is 1095 carbon steel.

They make some other interesting knives in that line too. Yours is an X-3 and the other one I like is the X-1.

the friend who gave me this one has the one in your pic. he loves it!

im not crazy about the sharp spine either, or any double edged knives. i prefer spines with thumb serrations or nothing sharp at all.

ill probably dull this one, cause i will definitely end up cutting myself.

do you know if these are still offered?

Much nicer than the Tracker, you can see some of the Tracker-inspiration on this one, but, looks much less radical.

I don't quie get the top being sharpened...don't see how it gives anything more than the regular blade edge. otherwise in 1095 looks tough.
Can't argue with a .247 thickness I'll call that 1/4"

It would make a lot more sense if the top edge had serrations, but you could always reprofile the top edge to be finer, and have yourself a double bit thing going.

That appeals to me much more having that straight line edge.

me too. while i like the look of the tracker, predator, and beck, i didnt think i would like the different edges on the primary grind. doesnt seem practical to me.

i like the single grind/edge on this one.

Very nice, looks good enough to be on a wish list! I'd love to hear a review about it if you get a chance to use it. I do like the style more than the tracker, but would rather have a flat top, or even a saw, on the top.

Handsome!

I agree with the other guys, that looks a lot more reasonable than the original Tops design. With (basically) 1/4" stock, I'm sure it's very sturdy.

Having said that, given the choice I would still pick the X-1 DaleW posted. If the steel is heat-treated decent, I see no reason not to use the regular edge to draw-cut with (on wood, at least) if need be. In fact, I think that's a good way to test the steel and its treatment. In my small collection, all the knives that keep a good edge normally, also do OK with draw-cuts and scraping.

as far as general practicality goes, the x-1 is probably a better choice. but since ive been wanting one of these for a while, and avoided the others because of the overly aggressive blade design, this is the perfect choice for me.
