Well I finally did it. After 3 years of lusting and weeks of reading this forum I bought a used Small Standard with BG-42 blade. I wish I had bought one 3 years ago, it would have saved me a lot of wasted effort on other knives. This was also the first time I have seen a Sebbie in person. Ok first off it seemed smaller than I would have thought based on specs. Most knives I own have under 3" blades/4" handles and the Sebbie seems smaller. It is a perfect size for my hands. The blade seemed more clip pointed than I expected from pictures I have looked at no big deal, just surprising. Upon trying to open it seemed very rough and resistant. It was used so I thought a little WD-40 (still waiting for Militec). Didn't help much. So I got real brave and decided to take it apart for a complete cleaning. This is when I started to understand why this knife is worth every penny. The construction is like none I have seen before. The pivot pin set-up is amazing. Not only the bronze washers but also the sleeve (not sure what to call it) around the pin was something else. After I put it back together again I was amazed. This was now the smoothest opening folder I have ever used. It opened like one of my other knives with the pivot so loose that the blade would have major side to side play (great action but fairly unsafe for use). Lock up on the Sebbie is wonderful. When open it feels like a fixed blade. The finish on the handle and blade are both great for a working knife. I must however state that Chris Reeve knives have a major flaw. I mean this is going to be a serious problem for me in the future. I cant wait to get another. I mean I am hooked, Someone help me please. Oh well I guess I will just have to get another, I mean used to it.
