Since I hit my 75th birthday this year, I have decided to spoil myself and do something I always wanted to do...collect beautiful knives. I also decided they would be useful knives as opposed to queens as my son, who is an avid outdoors-man and hunter in British Columbia, will inherit these blades later.

So far I have concentrated on Fallkniven and Bark River knives with a side trip to the wonderful ESEE Blades. I aalso have one custom made Fairbairn-Sykes Commando knife which is my pride and joy.
Here are my 7 fixed blade knives.
They are from left to right:
ESEE-4, Fallkniven TK-2, Fallkniven SK-1 Jarl, Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Knife, Bark River Gunny, Bark River Bravo 1 and and the beast, Bark River STS-5

I hope you like my collection so far...I have just begun!

Best to all
Leo

Nice collection, that dagger is freakin beautiful:thumbup:
Thank you kindly sir!
The dagger is a custom made Fairbairn-Sykes commando knife made for me by Peter Parkinson from New Zealand. Although it appears to be exactly like the Pattern 2 from WWII, appearance is where the similarity ends. First of all the blade is made from 440C steel which beats the stuff they used in the war as to edge retention and strength in all directions, by a country mile. The fit and finish of the knife precludes the weaknesses of the old model...the blade's tang fits so tightly up into the handle and is fastened so powerfully by the locking nut, that to all intents and purposes it is like a single unit with that coke-bottle handle. In the old model water, blood etc. would get up there and rust out the tang, which wasn't such a strong thing in the first place. The tang was also subject to being bent out of shape. Not so with this one! Also the tips of the old knives would often break off when striking something hard like a bone...I believe this tip would fare much better in its tasks.
All in all this is a fantastic knife and in every way serviceable to the tasks one can imagine for such a blade.

Best regards

awesome collection!

Thanks Amon! It is very satisfying to have these knives and I use them all except the dagger...can't peel potatoes with that baby and it is not for skinning elk either!
My ESEE-4 will soon be sporting new scales made for me by a fellow member here Randy Chinn. This guy is a fantastic craftsman and he made my new scales from exhibition grade, book-matched bird's-eye maple and he will also soon be making me a set of slabs for my Bark River STS-5 from cocobolo wood pictured here with Randy's new STS-5 and his ESEE-4 with my new scales mounted on it.

Best regards
Leo
