My entire Fixed blade collection. Its a start.

From Left to bottom and left to right:

Left Column
Marttiini Bronze Lynx: Course puukko from Army (Medic and Battery course)
Marttiini Finger Guard Leuku small
Marttiini Karhunkynsi: Cheap puukko I bought from Sotku / Mess for 3 day camping when I had no fixed blade with me (the camp was called cancelled previous week so I did not brought any fixed blade for camp)
Helle Symphony: Excellent and my most expensive puukko with only negative side is substandard sheath. I need custom sheath for it.
Kivimäki puukko, unknown model
Kivimäki puukko, unknown model and my most used puukko

Right column

Cheap 2€ Mora from local hardware store. I use this as my primary abuse puukko.
Böker Magnum Escape
CRKT Sting
Marttiini Silver Carbinox: 1st Course knife from Army (Medic course)
J. Peltonen Sissi Puukko: Official Finnish army knife M/92.
USMC Ka-Bar: My trusty soon a decade served knife. Edge has been reprofiled and currently has a mean edge. Shaving sharp atm.

Close up from Kivimäki's Helle and Karhun Kynsi

P9130003-1.jpg

Karhunkynsi again, and two Marttiini's.

P9130004-1.jpg

2€ Mora, Böker Escape, Sting and piece of Silver Carbinox

My mean duo: Reprofiled Ka-Bar and Sissi puukko with Carbinox above. At the best time. I had Ka-Bar attach on my thigh, my trusty Kivimäki puukko on belt and Sissi attached on quickdraw on combat wests we carried. Next most armed guy had only Mora ^^

Now in the future: I will get Either Ka-Bar Becker Necker or RAT Izula for neck knife. I really want a Bowie so I am not sure which one I'll get but Linder Rocky Mountain Bowie might be good. I have also eyed Buck Vanguard.

I wonder what else I would get for my Fixed blades...? Man can't have enough good blades, folder or fixed blades.

ME:TELL ME ABOUT IT

GOOD COLLECTION YOU GOT THERE

POST SOME PHOTOS OF WERE YOU LIVE TOO

Here are couple of pictures I took from stone throw away from place I live:

Around these place I've tested many of my knives.

Nice Collection. Give RAT Cutlery and Becker a try. You'll love em! I have bothe the BK-11 and RC Izula. I love them both, however, I carry the Izula more :)

Oh man, I'll just have to bite. First the puukkos.

The same maker as yours, I believe? I got this at a crafts fair some ten years ago. I like the hefty handle, very good in hand when working wood.

roselli1.jpg

Roselli "Granny's tooth" for carving and fine work. Crazy bite on that high carbon steel.

I also have the Peltonen. I used to have the old version that was basically the same as a Valmet bayonet, only without the milling of the locking system and flat gring instead of the bayonet's diamond cross section. It had horrible handle ergos but I used it a lot, chopping away doing different camp stuff. The rough rubber handle on the new one is no picnic for bare hands either... When I got the new version my outdoor activities started to suffer from wifeandkids-itis, hence its mint condition.

Enough blade for you? :)

I don't beat my good puukkos, I use cheapo stainless €2 hardware store variety for construction, scraping and such. So mine are in good condition, and the cheapos get thrown away. Literally; when they're no longer serviceable I give them a needle point and use them as throwers!

I have maybe ten other FBs, mostly cheap SD stickers (+ Emerson Perrin La Griffe, a slasher extraordinaire). Here are a couple of other types:

Spyderco moran, sharpened both sides (will add serrations when I find the time):

moran2.jpg

A very good general use blade that Moran, comfy handle, so naturally I want to turn it into a cross-draw SD beast.

foxdagger.jpg

Fox Cutlery dagger, also on its way to becoming a more SD oriented blade. A leaner sheath and a simple nut to replace that heavy screw-off pommel. That should do it.

cliplock.jpg

Finally, Gerber Cliplock, my diving knife. Never had to gut (edited: meant to say cut but gut works too!) anything with it under water, and I hope it stays so. Topside I've cut ropes and fish.

Yeah, jorski that's the same puukko than I have. I just have brass metal reinforcement where you have leather strap. I'd preferred your kinds of sheath though. The brass strap in sheath, I've never liked it. Kivimäki makes good puukkos.

How do you guys like the Peltonen knife Vs. something like the Fallkniven F1, which has a shorter, stiffer blade?

J. Peltonen Sissi Puukko: Official Finnish army knife M/92.

The model you have in the picture is the m95. The first version had the name "sissipuukko" but no model number to indicate year as is the case with the newer models. The newest is the m07 with a 5 inch blade.

None of the sissipuukko models are official in the FDF but are very common in all branches due to their obvious suitability to military use. In fact there is no official knife but the assault rifles come with a bayonet. The bayonet is not even fielded but mostly separately used in handtohand combat training.

Lastly, the Sissipuukko isn't really a puukko

Funny you should ask, I'm checking out the Fallkniven line for a slightly shorter user FB. Can't say yet.

The Peltonen now comes in a shorter version too, and you can get a plastic sheath instead of that very heavy duty leather one. I don't know about durability and retention. The leather sheath is an attempt to create a tactical carry system, suitable for military use, but keeping some traditional puukko carry features.

I don't know if the short version is same thickness as the longer one, which is very thick for the width of the blade. Very much a sharpened pry bar. More than a puukko it's an individual soldier's terrain clearing tool and camp knife, and it's great for chopping.

Lastly, the Sissipuukko isn't really a puukko

Well, yeah, to put it bluntly. :)

Dan, persay its not puukko but its still large puukko and known it as Sissipuukko. Its official name for it. Its same thing with Mini Bowies. They're not real bowies but are called mini bowies or are named so. Finnish army doesn' have "official" knife but knife is still featured all official finnish army material. Peoples use their own knife mostly.

and well, m/95.. M/92... typo is typo

Most bayonets that came with rifles are stocked away or broken. They are not given troops, except the guards of president palace to use official reception and guard shift duties. Regular troops like where I served, never even got even a glimpse of bayonet. Not in all months I served in FDF.
