Hey All,
Been a lurker for awhile. But had a little tiny project I did a few weekends ago that I thought I'd share.
My frist knife ever incidentally was a Kershaw DWO which I got as a cub scout many years ago. So I've used Kershaws for a long time.
I've been a fan of the Kershaw Leek since my dad bought me my first one for christmas. It was the steel frame lock version. Only complaint I ever had was that it wasn't grippy enough sometimes.
So, enter the g-10 Leek which was fine except that I wasn't a big fan of the liner lock which I found a lot hard to disengage for some reason.
So, enter the Franken Leek inspired by my Spyderco Southard (which is just a bit too big to carry most of the time).
I basically combined a g10 Leek with a steel frame lock Leek.
I started by stone washing the liner, clip, and steel frame lock portions so they matched the s30v blade a bit better. Then shortened the screws from the g10 knife (the others where too short).
The hardest part was getting the blade centered while preserving the fast action of the speedsafe assist. I carefully ground down the end of the g10 knife's pivot until it was just right.
I'm pretty happy with the result (though I wish I'd done a heavier stone wash now) and it's the knife I carry most days.
