Hi folks,

I could use your help. My best friend is a semi-retired mechanic. Many years ago he got this knife in partial trade for some car work that he did for a gentleman, stuck it on a shelf and forgot about it. We were talking about knives the other day and he asked me if I knew what it was and I told him I had no idea - other than it coming from the Buck Custom Shop. I tried searching on the internet and can't find out anything. We're just curious when it was made and what the model is. I'm assuming these are Mastodon handle scales but that is an assumption. I tried emailing Buck and they didn't reply back.

His best guess is that he got it in the early to mid 80s but he admits he doesn't remember for sure. He's always been curious about what this is.

I'm hoping these photos will help:

Overall length is about: 10-1/8"
Blade lenght: 5"
The knife alone weighs about 10.5oz

Any information you could share with us would be greatly appreciated. He's wondering whether to sell it or keep it. I don't collect these and am just trying to help him out.

Best wishes,

George

Somebody here can probably help, but I would call Buck. I have had good luck with them in the past (via email and phone both), not sure what happened with your case. If you attached photos, it may have gone to spam. I always email without photos first and ask if I can send them so my email address doesn't show up as junk.

It's a beautiful knife. Your friend probably did well taking that as partial payment.

I'll try calling them - I just emailed because I thought the photos would help.

I have no idea on the value - that is part of what my friend was hoping for a guesstimate on.

Nice knife, thanks for sharing. IMO my first thought was it to be a 923 Medium Skinner with a small clip added. MT_Pokt MT_Pokt suggests a 933, a model I personally do not have so he may have a better "handle" on it. These are all custom hand made knives so there can be quite a bit of variation and features. The grind of the blade makes it mid 80's or later, not early. On the lower left of the warranty sheet is a printers code, blurry but I make it out to be '85. That gives you a can't be older than date as the sheets were used multiple years.

933 Trailing Point Hunter. There are variations since these were pretty much hand ground. The lower knife in my earlier post is also a 933 Trailing Point.

931 Clip Point Hunter. Also the top picture in my previous post.

This is a 921, 923, and 925 from top to bottom. In Mesquite. This set is the 920 skinner set.Screenshot_20230323_211505_Photobucket.jpg

Buck is closed for the holiday today.

I would say 933 as well. They made subtle changes to them over the years. I have serial number 1 from the custom shop of each model.

Here’s one of my sets thought to be the first ones made. Only stamped Buck USA on both sides before they went to the custom stamp.

If I was selling I’d say at least $1000 with ivory.

It's a very special CS Buck..Many long time collectors eventually go to them because the supply is so limited and frankly a real challenge! Inflation has hit old Custom shop knifes since owners have to have a LOT of reasons to give up a treasure like this.

Skyler is spot on with the knife being a 933, handle material, and value.
Nice knife.
