Hi,

I have some knives that were given to me by an old friend when he discovered he had a terminal illness, several years ago. I'm not a knife collector, as much as I'm an accumulator. I use the knives that I have, with the exception of a very few.

Before I use any of these knives, I'm curious if any have collector value? I really don't want to ruin the value needlessly. I've added text to help indentify them, if any additional info is needed I will gladly do what I can.

BTW, I had a bit of a brain freeze and marked the small folder "Olin" inadvertently. My gun brain took over I guess..

Thanks...

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...MBERS-Please-read-this-WHAT-IS-MY-KNIFE-WORTH

WHAT IS MY KNIFE / GADGET / SPATULA / TUNING FORK WORTH ?!?!?!?!

In order to curtail potential abuse of membership privileges associated with the forums, questions regarding valuation of knives and collections are limited to those with a membership level which permits selling on this site. Accordingly, registered and basic members may not start or post in threads with such requests whether with the intent to sell or for informational purposes only. This rule applies throughout the site.

In other words, without a paid Gold membership, you don't get to ask about sale values. Too many people abused this question to hint they had a knife for sale, which you need that membership for.

sounded to me like he didnt want a dolllar amount just didnt want to beat on and destroy a collectable.

That's what I got out of it too. I read as that he just wants to know if these are anything collectable or not. For sure the Case knife is a collectable. Is that a damascus blade on it???

Well...I don't want to piss-off the moderators with my first post, so I guess I'll ask elsewhere... BTW, if the moderators would read, or be courteous enough to ask. As the members stated, I did not ask for a specific value.

And to be courteous in answering the question.

Yes, the blade is damascus (etched?) , and very well done.

Enjoy your forum...

Thanks, we will. We do pride ourselves on our being courtious(whatever that is)!!;):)

Seriously there is a good reason to do what has been done because it will lead to abuse if not stopped. When you joined you were directed to read the rules and this rule is posted in the stickies at every sub-forum at BF.

What's posted in the rules? I didn't ask for a value. I asked if any of these knives were considered valued collector's items. Instead I get a boiler plate push button reply. And it seems you have contests to see who can push the button first.

"Lead to abuse" Really?! You mean you wouldn't get your share of the take.

Now please show me the courtesy of deleting my profile information. I have no desire to be affilliated with a forum such as yours.

Thank You...

Crossbow, please understand Mods have to monitor the site for abuse. I think you misunderstood the intent of the rule, and the forum. If you want to leave, it will only spite yourself. The forum has a ton of information. I've had a few infractions, first one gets to you, then you learn what you did and you don't do it again.

I'm sorry to hear about your close friend. I pray they will have comfort, and if they have passed that they are at peace.

You used the word value, that is the word people use when they want to know how much money something is worth. We see prevaricative post like yours regularly. It's a transparant and shady way of trying to sell stuff through the forum with out paying for the use of the exchange area. I'm not saying that you are doing this but that is what the Mods are protecting against and that is what it looks like you're doing.

I don't get nuttin.:(

Well, let me rephrase that. I don't receive anything monetarily, but I do get friendship, a wealth of information, and a place to hang out with a bunch of great folks!

Lot's of folk get "put-off" really easy when they join and get negative feedback on their first post, and then say they want to have their account cancelled. I was a bit of a smart aleck in my first reply as I tend to forget how it was when first coming on to a new forum, and for that I apologize.

Hang around and get to know some folks and you can/will gain a great deal of information about knives, and life!:)

You used the word value

collector value. Quite a bit different, IMO.

Everyone seems to need a chill pill today... Crossbow, the mods are just doing their jobs. Don't take it personally, or you'll miss out on a real gem of a forum community :)

I'm not scared to give you a value. These knives were a gift from a great friend and they are priceless. Use them or fondle them. Maintain them and reflect on the memories you shared. Just dont abuse them. Your friend will be happy you enjoyed them no matter how you decide to use them.

This.

If that was really his question then there is a difference, but one needs to read between the lines when a noob shows up with knives he just wants to know the value of, he's not selling them.....If he isn't selling them then what does the value matter ? They were seemingly a gift from a friend as well so asking about value is bad form any way, IMO. They are not the sort of knives one needs to worry about insuring as they are just production knives that are really nothing special so the collector value is a non issue, the sale value may be of more interest though.....

The Protech (I think it is called the Stinger) is the "best" out of the bunch. Next in line is the Case damascus gunstock
The Bear MGC and the rest aren't anything in high demand.
Like others have said use them and take pride in them. They are nice knives.

I think the Protech is a Godson with some type of dyed maple wood(?). The Case looks to have CCC stamped on the bolster which means Case Collectors Club, it looks like Sambar stag handles, and of course, the damascus blades. A very nice knife.
