My GANGA RAM!!!

This GRS is a beast! I makes my BAS feel like a belt knife.
And it CHOPS! WOW! I thought my BAS was a good enough chopper considering its size and weight.

I don't recognize the Kami mark <Fish>, and would appreciate anyone that can let me know who made this wonderful blade.

My Ganga Ram is an entirely different animal. It was made to chop. It begs to chop. IT DEMANDS TO CHOP!!

Its just over 18" over all length and 1lb 15oz. 7/16" spine. Its not as beautiful as my Rajkumar made BAS or Bilton, but is stunning with its elegant lines and curves. My BAS sings to me, but this GRS screams at me to be used hard.

It came with some burs on the blade that were easily taken off with a steel. There was zero soft metal on this blade unlike the highly polished blades I got before. This blade was never meant to be anything other than a hard use tool. And I can only hope that I am up to the challenge...

Can anyone help me identify this Kami mark?

I think the all caps in the title are well deserved :) That is a the khukuri equivalent of a Barrett .50 BMG. Only you don't ever run out of ammo!

Ammo = arm strength!!

Bring on the Zombies!! I'm finally ready!!

(I ordered this blade after reading Monster Hunter International!)
I can just imagine this beast in the hands of Owen Zastava Pitt!!

I forget now, but I am pretty sure Owen's GRS was 22" long or longer. Then again, he was also dealing with tougher stock than you will :)
By the same token, in the last MHI book, he had a huge, possibly chiruwa, Chitlangi. You will really like those guys, if you haven't tried them yet. More angular, but the fullers are hypnotizing.

Yeah, there is no way I could handle a 22" GRS...
Owen is a WAY stronger than I am... and I don't see master vampires attacking me... so the usable 18" is the chopper for me.. ;)
He lost his GRS in the beginning of book 2, and then got a Chitlangi. I really like the way they look, and will probably get one of them instead of a Sirupati. (OK... I'll probably get both...)

The first step is admitting we have a problem, I don't know what the 11 remaining steps are, but if they include selling my collection, then I am not interested.

As for the Sirupate V. Chitlangi dilemma, I would always vote for a Chitlangi. If I have one khukuri that never "spoke" to me, it is my 25" Sirupate. It is just way too front-heavy for comfort when held one-handed. A shorter one should be good, though, like a 21" incher.

I love my 20" Siru and even it is a bit front heavy.

That is why I custom ordered a 20 and a 25 siru with a chiruwa style handle---I'm hoping they improve the balance.

OH and, yes, this is a problem. My wife is mad whenever a nother box shows up..........I keep telling her this one is the last one.

I hope you post pics or vids when you get them! Those must be sweet, in a very heavy and lethal sort of way :)
Did you mean for the the 25" siru to be a two-handed affair with a longish handle? That would make it an axe/sword with impressive bragging rights. Custom orders make H.I. an even better firm if possible, but they take so darn long to arrive when one is sick with HIKV :)

I know... I waited 4 months for my Ganga Ram, it was just off the website without customizations. It is TOTALY worth the wait. I ordered it before I really knew anything about HI or this forum.
My wife has made it clear that my HIKV need to go into remission for a while... And honestly I haven't really spent time with my BAS or GRS, so I think I can wait and use these khukuri for a while and then get to know what sort of knife I need next. (At this point, a Chitlangi is at the top of my list.)

From top to bottom:

Kagas Katne - no Kami marks

Bilton - Rajkumar

BAS - Rajkumar

18" GRS - <Fish> Don't know who's Kami mark that is

I've noticed that my GRS's handle has more curve to it that the GRS on the website. I know that I enjoyed chopping it much more than the 18" AK that I got to try a while back. I wonder how much of that difference is the shape of the blade or the overall curve of the khukuri(handle and blade). When I used the AK, it just seemed big and bulky, and though it would chop, it didn't work for me anywhere near as this GRS. I know I got the right heavy chopper for me!!

Man I'm in the same boat. With 9 showing up in one month she is definitely not pleased. I told her too many times "this is the last one" only for another one to show up. I miss the days when she worked so I could get home first and hide the evidence.

The Kami's name is" Khadka Ram Bishwakarma

Bhaktapur"

fish I got that off of the kami Links library here. Hope that helps.. Sweet GRS!!!

Can you show us the link?
Bhaktapur (Nepali: भक्तपुर Bhaktapur ), also Bhadgaon or Khwopa (Nepal Bhasa: ख्वप Khwopa) is an ancient Newar town in the east corner of the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal. It is located in Bhaktapur District in the Bagmati Zone. It is the third largest city in Kathmandu valley and was once the capital of Nepal during the great Malla Kingdom until the second half of the 15th century-Wiki

It's probably a Khadka made but he's not known for habaki- bolster and small pommel. He was known for blank signature as well as the most recent one, dhaka topi.

I have a piece from Lok that has a fish sign on it but he left H.I sometimes ago.

Your GRS has U.B and H.I carved in Devanagari on the right side of blade and it looks like a new piece to me. Could this Fish kami be a new lad in town?

Updated marks of the Kamis

Here are the marks of our seven full time kamis:
Bura -- cresent moon
Kumar -- six pointed star
Kesar -- half sun
Prakash -- small khukuri
Sanu -- cross
Sher -- full sun
Khadka -- fish

Part timers and visitors will not mark blades. This was what the kamis felt was the right thing to do. We get a lot of visitors and trying to come up with a symbol for each one seemed a little crazy.

Bill Martino 2/2000

More marks

Durba -- flag of Nepal
Kami with no name -- butter lamp (variations of same)
Jag & Prem -- full sun with 4 points at 12,3,6,9

BM 8/2001

This is what I found Reading about the Kami's on Himalayan Imports Website. I know its old, but I'm not sure that there are many other Kami's that use a fish as there mark. It's funny because I bought a UVG about a month ago with a KOA wood handle and didn't recognize the Kami's mark either. I did a bit of research on mine and remembered the fish marking for some reason.. Thats the best I can do. Hope that helps.....
