This is not recent news but it is a much anticipated improvement for me. I've had three GB's and have sold/traded all away. Afterwards I had remorse but finally decided to get one back and do the mod so I can use it for work in cold weather .

The only reason I parted with the others is it was IMPOSSIBLE for me to use the knife outdoors in cold weather with HEAVY gloves on---well not the case any longer.

It's an easy modification except I went through several assemble---dis-assemble attempts until it worked flawlessly for me.

Just after pictures as pretty much everyone knows the look of the GB in it's stock version.

Thanks for looking---not perfect by any means but perfect for me---this one's a keeper .

Hi Paul. Was it difficult to profile the liner material? Just got my GB yesterday. I work construction so I'm in gloves all winter (still cold here in xenia ohio!) so I've been checking out those mods on the forums. Might have to try it.

Thanks,
Charly

Charly it was an easy mod in my opinion. I used a sharpie as a reference point as to how much stock I wanted to remove. Dis-assemble and to the grind stone for pretty quick stock removal. Although quick I was very careful not to overheat (not sure if it would be an issue being it's the liner) but cooled the liner in water just to be on the safe side.

Once the majority of stock was removed, I simply used my little work sharp belt grinder. Went 80 grit to 150 grit to the 6000 grit polishing belt. Put scale back on liner, marked with sharpie and used the same process (with a mask) as I used on the metal liner. I went about the same distance below the sharpie mark on the scale so it would show the "shadow" or "reveal" type look it comes with from the factory .

Hey Paul looks great, you made yours wider than I did but whatever works for you! Great job leaving an even amount of liner protruding, I have seen some ground down even with the scale.

Great knife, now get a patina on that thing!!

Guess I don't have a closed pic, I'll have to take one. Here it is open.
