There are a lot of outdoor folks here in Beckerland and I was curious as to what everybody carries for a day in the woods and what they carry it in.

I have been using a Gerber Evader hydration pack for almost a year now. I was looking for a slightly smaller pack than my previous REI Traverse. Plus I got the gerber on clearance for $20. It's 750 ci cargo capacity, 100 oz bladder (I usually also carry two extra 32 oz bottles of water)

I have a Streamlight Microstream on the outside, and my ESKabar is attached to the shoulder strap.

I prefer "bag prostitute"- so much more PC! but sadly, I'm not even that :grumpy:. I am mighty cheap when it comes to other gear, I'd rather spend money on knives.

the vulture II is actuLly very intrigiuing looking and huge to boot. mmm.

any users of such?

my question is where do you guys put your tents and sleeping bags?

ive got an REI backpack ive been using for years for overnight hikes.

i guess i need to look into getting a Maxped for day hikes...

I roll my sleeping bag and strap it to the bottom of my Condor II, I don't use a tent, I use a poncho, or build a natural shelter.

I have a much bigger pack for backpacking trips, but I only do that a couple times a year. I have a mid sized pack for overnighters as well.

hmmm. the Condor II looks bulky.

i would also be afraid to get my sleeping bag wet if i couldn't get into my pack

Ummm, yeah. I'll post up some recycled pics.

I take this in a Granite Gear Vapor Trail(multi day or w/ extra jacket) or Osprey Helios 20(seen in second pic).

Stove gets swapped out w/ white gas when it gets real cold.

That looks like a great size. Why did you have to post about a pack that is out of production. Now I want one:grumpy: Can you recommend other in that size range? Thanks.

i already posted these in another thread but since i added another tarp to my pack and took a pic of it, why not post it here...

these i carry on me in my pants or jacket except the canteen and cup. if i'm going to gather firewood that's more than a few feet away from my camp site especially if i'm hiking by myself then i'm going to carry the canteen & cup with me.

my maxpedition falcon ii and the contents. the klean kanteen is usually empty since i already have a 100 oz camelbak in the pack and the g.i. canteen filled with water. i bring it for another backup container for boiling water.

i may or may not bring the hobo stove depending on my mood but since it's winter now i bring my alcohol stove kit at all times. in an emergency i'm not going to fuss around with looking for sticks and stuff to burn when i can have boiling water in under 10 min with it.

in the summer i'll leave the 5'x7' tarp, etc. at home unless i intend to use it on that hike. during the winter i'll bring it regardless.

i went for a hike yesterday and most of the trail i was knee deep in snow. i didn't feel like using my normal tarp on the ground since it's a lightweight tarp and i'd rather not risk puncturing it so i ended up not playing with my knives since i didn't have any bare ground...so i strapped on a more heavy duty (and cheap! i think it was only $5) tarp for my next hike.

Anyone have/used the Maxped Monsoon Gearslinger? Or any of the other Gearslinger series?

I used the Maxpedtion Kodiak and Sitka, they were excellent packs I just prefer 2 straps.

the one strap starts to wear on your shoulder, they also become heavy fast.

If the kodiak was offered with two straps it would be a sweet pack...

I guess it depends on what capacity I'm in the woods for. My SAR pack is an old Blackhwak Industries opsec pack and has lots of extra warm clothes, batteries and blinking lights, oh and hand warmers lots of hand warmers.
My Eberlestock Gunslinger has lots of things to help me stay hidden, mags, NV ,and tons of food, lots of tools.
What I've been taking lately is my maxped. Versapack. It's like a large purse, but it's cool cause indiana jones uses one. I take it with me everywhere.
contents are
- ham radio
- 1st aid kit
- Blind horse Bush craft knife
- leatherman
- GPS
- Tac Tikka headlamp
- Kleen canteen plus nesting cup
- batteries, tools for leatherman, nail clippers
- wallet, hand cleaner, small fire kit, ceramic element ,kleenex, earplugs
- surefire 6p, pistol mag
thats about all.

I'm always trading stuff out depending on the season. I keep a large car kit and my SAR bag in the car all the time, so most of the space in my car is gear, really pisses my wife off.

What was the original question?
