So yeah, finished dinner and decided to compare contrast the one armed charlow vs the 85
then i decided to take some family photos

All were gifts or giveaways, so they are all special to me for different reasons.
anyways..

here is the charlow and the 85

Initial thoughts were proven correct, the 85 is slightly longer and (probably due to having 2 blades) thicker. The blades (well clip on the 85) are the same size both length and thickness, but i am gradually starting to prefer spear blades to clip blades, so i am actually preferring the charlow blade here. Plus the charlow has a long pull which is just the bees knees.

The ebony is a bit more filling in the hand which is probably better for prolonged use, but the charlow handle is nothing to sneeze at and rides noticeably better in the pocket. Dont make me say which i prefer the ebony or the sawcut bone, because i cant, i really like both.

And here is the family photo

One thing is for sure, i have a variety of colors here dont I? :D
The 23 is in 440C
the rest are 1095

Just wanted to show off the family, the charlow is a WONDROUS addition. And all of them were gifts and if i am honest, i dont think i would have every spent the money to buy such wonderful knives for myself. So a giant thank you to all of you

Ryan

**Edit**

Sorry for those that dont know, it goes

23 pioneer in smooth bone
92 Talon in green micarta
15 Charlow in sawcut bone
85 Tear Jack in ebony
68 White Owl in red bone

Some great knives have been bestowed your way. I don't own a 23. Didn't realize it was that much larger than the 15. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice collection there. Looks like you've got most of your bases covered. I pictured the 85 in my head to be quite a bit bigger than the 15 for some reason. Thanks for showing the comparison. BTW: The 23 is called the Pioneer.

thanks, updated the 23 name

yeah i on the other hand expect the 15 and the 85 to be the same size. kind of took me off guard to realize the charlow was smaller.
the pics dont really do the size difference justice. i mean its not a peanut by any means, but its noticeably smaller (trim was the adjective i think best describes the charlow :D)

We enjoy what you bring to the forum.

That's a handsome family indeed

The Barlow is truly a classic and one of my all-time favorite patterns.

Ryan, you have some of the "pick of the litter" favorite patterns of mine by GEC  I love them all, and have yet to admire a 92 in hand. Congrats to you and thanks for showing them here  I kind of have a special thing for the 23 pattern myself :) and you've got a Dandy there!
