My girl is going away for 3 months to be a Nurse at a special needs camp. I want to get her something like a going away gift/care package and was looking for ideas for SAK or multitools. Pretty sure I am going to get her a purple Spyderco I saw the other day. She is not going to be roughing it in the middle of no where, but something for utility work would be good.

thanks

Dave

p.s. she is not super girly but she ain't winning a knife fight anytime soon

How about maybe a nice backpack or some type of field pack?

You could always go with a Gerber or Leatherman multi tool of some kind.

My wife loves her Leatherman Wave.
I'm pretty happy with my SAK Huntsman for EDC in-pocket carry.

Yeah, i just want to get her some basic hand tools. She is going to be 29 this year and it will basically be her first knife. She can turn a screwdriver or wrench pretty good.

We are on the first aid squad together and I've seen her operate the Jaws of Life (with a little lifting help) so I know she handle a SAK.

A leatherman Wave would be a great choice. I would stay away from Gerber though but that's more of an opinion as im not trying to start a war.

As much as I like my swisschamp sometimes less really is more. Pliar based multi-tools are great but I find the sak more useful as well as more likely to be carried. Just talking about myself here.
What is comfortable to carry depends on the individual and to some extent how they dress. Jeans , slacks , running shorts , scrubs ect. An 84 mm tinker small can be a very handy pocket knife to have and is very easy to carry.
I sometimes pocket carry a four layer sak but prefer to use a sheath. 3 layers such as my super tinker, great sak imho , isn't to bad in the pocket tho two layers feels even better.
I guess what I am getting at is that picking something that your daughter is likely to carry all of the time is what I would suggest.

Victorinox gift set from FVEAP. $30 for an ALOX Victorinox Farmer and a victorinox LED flashlight (mini-mag size, even come with battery. Good size for a nurse. Say ahhhhh). Comes in a metal Vic tin. Free shipping in CONUS from FVEAP. Profits benefit an emergency Vet clinic (good cause, chics dig that stuff, you may get pie!) That knife is usually $30 alone, the rest is basically free.

I would go for a Vic. compact (has a pen, tweezers, scissors etc) or perhaps a climber model (comes in several colored options).

I would give red alox Pioneer and Mora Clipper. That should go very well for any kind of camping situation, bushcraft and utility.
