But I just can't make up my mind. I like the size of the #73 and I like woods and the ruby red bone and the etc. But there are so many others. The tractor green and etc. is always calling my name loudest. Decisions, decisions, decisions, this is not a what should I get thread; it is a lament, a whine, a rant, a complaint. O GEC why are you doing this to me? :D:cool::eek::p:o

I don't have a GEC yet either, but I've been looking up the #33's as of lately. I believe it's called a Conductor, and I think the pattern is pretty sweet! I guess we share similar goals :)! Hopefully you can achieve yours before me :cool:

me too.
It wasn't a goal I set It just kinda showed up...I aim to buy the '12 traditional forum knife. I hope it pans out
kill a Few birds with one stone.
--> GEC
--> Nice Wharncliffe
--> Nice collectible
--> rep/support this awesome place.

Just ordered up my first yesterday. A 79 whittler in micarta. Its not here yet and I am already eyeing my next one! I cant decide between a 23, 25, 26 or 57. To many nice knives to pick from and not enough money to buy them all...oh well, guess I will have to narrow it down by one or two

Mmmm...I don't know when I'll get a GEC... but it will inevitably happen in the future.
When that time comes I'll have a hard time deciding....dog leg, white owl, powder horn...so many nice patterns.

The 2012 Forum Knife is a necessity. ;) ...the 2011 Forum Knife and Charlie's (Waynorth's) Harness Jacks too. :thumbup:

I ran into GEC at Smoky Mountain Knife Works (SMKW) during I think they called it "manufacturer's Day". I was a walk in and did not know about anything going on there. I looked at a couple and thought them too expensive. I was thinking "case". Afterwards, I started reading and I bought my first later that year at SMKW labeled Bradford Cutlery which I believe GEC made for SMKW. I have since ordered several other ones including a Sunfish (#36), Trapper (#73), Stag Ben Hogan (#65) and and a Dogleg Jack (#56). My two favorites are the Cocobolo #73 and the Crimson Grizzly Sunfish. The accumulation will probably grow one more GEC blade this year. I suspect it will be a Pioneer pattern which I really like. Once you start buying them, you will continue with other patterns. SO, don't sweat the first one. Just pick one that you like now.

I bought my first GEC used from a member here. It's a walnut bone 73. Since then (roughly 6 months) I have purchased six more GEC's, the first still being my favorite. I'd say a tractor green 73 is a perfect first (and it's on my short list). . . but tread lightly, as each one begets another.

GEC knives remind me of See's candy stores. You don't just buy one chocolate. You have to get an entire assorted box. (annually:D:thumbup:)

Happy hunting!

For me getting a GEC was like stepping onto a slippery slope with smooth sole shoes on:D
IMHO, every knife nut should "treat" themselves to at least one of their patterns.
Good Luck, and best wishes in your quest!

Slippery slope indeed. The 73 pattern is a great starting point, it was my first GEC, too. Although I have a number of different models now, the 73 is still my favorite.

i have been looking at them hard after seeing so many posted on here.i was having trouble deciding which one i wasnted based on the online retailers pics.
i went to the GEC booth @ BLADE & i became very apparent which one i had to have once i picked up the white owl #68 in jigged bone & cocobolo

already had a fellow knife nut try to buy the jigged bone one off me

To those who have not taken the plunge, go for it!!!
I hesitated to buy when they first started producing knives and it wasn't until a couple years ago that I actually fell in love with their brand.

Top quality knives for sure.

I know looking at the price now your probably thinking, "I could get a couple Case knives, or a few others for that price". And when you look at that number, it can be hard to make that decision.
To be honest though, once you get the first, the price can actually sound reasonable. :thumbup:

Is the jigged bone as sharply cut as it appears on some of the fotos here? If it is those have to be the best there is available.

That is my goal too...but I need to get a job first
it's hard to see good stuff all the time and don't have a chance to get anything....
I only hope I fix that asap....or I will kill myself with a dull knife first......

im not 100% sure what you mean by sharp cut
there are no sharp edges on the cuts

Get which one you like now, I'm sure the others will soon follow. This is the GEC that started it for me... an American Elk #25 EO

Hi jakemex!

I had the same problem - this year in Winter. I decided to get a #66 Serpentine Jack. Great knife.

(bottom knife)

But you can also take a lot of other patterns. With a #73 you cant go wrong. I have one here in Beaver Tail Jigged Cherrywood. It´s a single blade.

IMO - with a lot of patterns which are already posted in the thread - you can´t and won´t go wrong.

That´s how you prefer - small or big - single- or multiblades - natural or synthetic handle material ...

Kind regards
Andi
