Here is a little background about my grandpa, he was an avid knife collector and is probably the reason I like knives so much. Case knives were his favorites, he would take trips to TN to go to knife shows and buy old/used Case knives that he would later fix and give to family members. He was an ex marine and a great guy. He was very old fashioned, he didn't even use honing oil on his stones, just good ole' spit:barf:. He worked as a security guard for BellSouth for umpteen thousand years (it was a very long time but can't remember the exact details), they gave him this collectors set for some reason that I am not aware of.

Anyway, he has unfortunately been gone since 1989 and my grandmother recently gave this set to me the last time I saw her. I thought you all would like to see it and maybe you can give me some info about it. Every bolster has a serial number on it and all the numbers match. Sorry for the poor quality pics, they were snapped in bad lighting.

Most of them are peanuts, but the one at the top is some sort of pen knife. Like an Eisenhower with a clip point blade.

Wow! That's quite a set! Most impressive. That's gotta be worth something. I bet your grandfather really loved those.

I really wish he would have left me with his personal pocketknife that showed some character. My great grandpa on the other side of my family wasn't a knife knut, but he died with a well used 8OT in his pocket that I carry every once in a while.

He may have left me some more knives, I may not know until my grandma passes, it seems she is saving them for the right time. I know she sold many from his collection to pay bills, just wish I would have known about it before they were gone, I would have given her double for them. I am sure it was a hard thing for her to do though.

I do not know anyhting about that particular set - all mother of pearl handles that were glued on with no pins. Case used that method for pearl from 1981 until 1985 or so. I suspect that set was not a release issued directly by Case but more likely through a dealer that had Case make them on contract.

Indiviudally, the standard product versions of those pearls (no embellishments) would sell for about $60 to $80 each today in mint condition.

very cool, I have one case stockman that was my maternal grandfathers, bought a later copy to carry

What a great set, especially with the connection to your grandpa!

Not to pick nits, but I notice a fingerprint on a bolster in one of the photos. Get yourself a soft cloth and some mineral oil and give them a good cleaning; they will thank you for it!
