This thread possibly belongs in the GBU, but I imagine that if someone is thinking of buying a Gunting they'd probably look here first - and this is something they should know!
Earlier this year the Gunting hype got me going and I forked out $300 something for a Gunting, a Trainer, a kydex sheath and the instructor DVD set. For me, the DVDs were an integral part of the package - I live in New Zealand and my chances of getting to a BF Gunting seminar are slim, so without the DVDs the Gunting is nothing more than a silly shaped Native III to me.
I had huge difficulties in getting the DVDs to work on my system - they played but got stuck at random points. After they got stuck you'd have to start from the beginning and hope you get a bit further. Sometimes I got lucky and after many days I eventually got through them once. I blamed my system (although it played any other DVD 100% without any problems). About 2 months ago or so, I managed to borrow 2 other DVD players from friends for test runs. The same thing happened with the Gunting DVDs on both players. Yup - my Gunting instantly changed into a weird looking stick whittler.
I contacted the guy I bought them from and he tried to help, but couldn't get much done. Steve Drayton then suggested I contact George Denson via the CSSDSC site. I wasn't expecting much help and offered to ship my broken DVDs to him and pay for shipping of replacements back, but George was just awesome in sorting my problem out (even though I had not bought the DVDs directly from him). He was quite happy to send on the replacements, but suggested that I check out the site for other training materials (just in case). I was always intrigued by BF's Bolo Volumes and thought to get those, but also wanted to check out George's own '30 One Step Sparring techniques'. George solved the problem quickly: I paid only for the Bolo Volumes, he included the Sparring techniques for free and sent me my Gunting DVDs and paid for the shipping of the whole package. Damn that's good
So if anyone thinks of buying a Gunting (and the DVDs), I highly recommend getting the training materials from the CSSDSC site. These guys stand by their product and their service is awesome (even from New Zealand).
PS The Bolo Volumes shows that Bram hasn't gotten any prettier since the Gunting DVDs. Be warned!
No, they're actually really good!
Cheers,
Greg
