My HI khukuri arrived today. I'm pleased with it, but I have one issue.

The sharpener, the one that's used just to touch up the blade a bit (I have no idea what it's called or how to use it ), is loose in it's handle. It doesn't come out, but it may get worse, and I assume that the rest of the equipment is put together as the toucher-upper was. This concerns me, but not a whole lot, because I know HI has a very good reputation and Uncle Bill is quite respected.

Admittedly, I bought the knife second-hand, but these things have a lifetime warranty. I know the warranty is probably void since I bought it used, but if they garantee it isn't it safe to assume that it'll last?

Did you buy the Knife from Himalayan Imports? If not, you would need to contact Uncle Bill to see if it is covered under warrenty. I would imagine it is, but I dont' know for sure.

You could probably fix the chakmah yourself with a little epoxy-- JB Weld seems to work really well. The main blade is not constructed in the same way. The tang extends all the way through the handle and is peened over at the buttcap.

Also, you'd probably get better responses if you posted this in the HI forum.

he'll cover it. And even if you didn't I would drop him an email just to make sure he's aware of it. He might have an extra one around. I'm an impatient person and would most likey end up using epoxy instead of waiting for shipping. The chakma and karda, IIRC, are often made by the kami's apprentice and may not be quite as fine as the khuk itself. I wouldn't worry about the khuk, I've chopped through fence posts and branches 6"-8" without anything coming loose.
