Just got here, lot of great info.

Been into knives for years, just not anything too fancy, but have always collected them here and there.

The bug bit me again and I started poking around and decided I needed a few new toys to play with.

Top down, though they are all pretty common.

CS Rajah II - even just for the laugh, I had to have it...huuuge
Benchmade Onslaught - EDC, very nice, very happy with it
CKRT Crawford/Kasper - For the wife, for $20...it's not bad at all
Some $5 p.o.s. that I've had around forever just for size comparison "letter opener"

Thats a good start KS! Welcome to BladeForums.

Be very careful around here. There are more bad influences around here that you can shake that Rajah at. You'll be a foam-at-the-mouth knife knut in no time. ;)

You will find out more about knives than you could imagine.:D That BM Onslaught is a fairly large knife, but it does look tiny with respect to the Rajah!

Hi kingsqueak -

Interesting picture- I knew that the Rajah was a large knife, but that really diagrams it for me.

Nice collection, thanks for the picture.

best regards -

Thanks for posting, and welcome to BF!

I'm carrying my Mini Dejavoo at the moment, and I was just thinking about picking up an Onslaught. Going to a Gun & Knife show later this afternoon here in Michigan . . . maybe I'll run into one. . . .

How does the 741 ride in your pocket as for EDC? I'm curious because I had an opportunity to pick one up at a steal of a price but I didn't do it because its a big knife and I was thinking I'd have to dedicate a whole pocket to it.

So I'm a big guy, my pockets are big. I can fit the Rajah II fully inside my front jeans pocket....just.

The 741 is about a half of a pocket I'd say. I'll not carry anything else in the same pocket, but I find it totally comfortable as an initial impression.

With jeans on, seated, it sits easily and fully inside my pocket.

I was messing with paracord last night and put the Reeves style lanyard on three of the ones in the pic, came out nice. I found about 2.5" worked out well on the 741 as enough to help fish the knife out of my pocket or at least to help locate it.

Of the three ways I've played with deploying it, using my thumb and pushing, light tug on the axis with my thumb with a wrist flip and starting with the index finger and flipping, I'm finding the index finger is working well. The axis button face is pretty rough and of course very stiff as it is new so it was hammering my thumb practicing.

Is the 741 'too big'? Not to me. I wanted the largest and sturdiest blade that wouldn't be so huge as to get on my nerves walking around. I think this fits that bill pretty well. It's a thin blade for the size compared to some others I've seen but I'm not prying things or digging holes with this knife. My use is general utility and EDC defensive. I think it's plenty strong enough for that. I think the 741's thickness and weight and overall size balance did the job.

Of course there are 20 more to add to the collection....at least. :-)

That CKRT Crawford/Kasper for $20 is rather impressive for that money. The lock is nowhere near the quality of the CS or the Benchmade, but ...it's better fitted than many other knives that I've paid twice that for over the years. I'm tempted to just order another one of those to leave lying around too.

My dog hates that Rajah II heheheh the snap when it locks scares her. If you lock that blade in a dark house, you won't be sneaking up on anyone, that's for sure. When you deploy and lock that sucker, the other guy is going to either shoot you, or leave. If he's still standing there, you are about to have an 'interesting' time...and I'm not sure any knife is going to make the definitive difference at that point ;-).

but I didnt know how big.

It's truly the size of one of those smaller folding camp saws and has a lot of heft to it too. Definite chopper and surprisingly kukri like balance for being small for that type of blade. The lock is just insanely solid, it's actually tough to push in being brand new right now.

It's an out for a hike, walking the dog at night or heading to a pit of hell area and planning ahead knife. EDC? Even for me it's over the top, but I don't live in that crazy an area either.

It's definitely not something you would pull out in daylight and have an avg person overlook. It's going to draw all the wrong attention from the avg person. The 741 if I was discreet, I *might* get away with opening a box without someone passing out. The Rajah...they'll be calling 911 around here.

It's also just so heavy, it may fit in my pocket, but it's too much to walk around with all the time flopping inside a pocket. Definitely a good one to ride on the clip and it shows a lot when on the clip so it isn't discreet.

I added a pic up top showing the clip in case you carry with the clip.

It leaves a good 5/8" out of the pocket, just enough to get a finger on the 'butt' of the handle. So it carries pretty deep on the clip.

Personally I don't generally have a knife on its clip in 'public', I prefer to have them inside my pocket entirely so they aren't showing at all.

Ok cool, it does look like it should be a decent blade then. And thanks for the other pic, it does help out with imagining how it carries. I think I'll set aside funds for one.

After carrying the 741 around for a few days. Off the clip, in the pocket, it gets sideways and prints pretty obviously as a big lump of something in there. It's also badly in the way if I stuff my keys in there with it.

I'm finding with a shirt untucked that IWB with the clip between the belt and my jeans at about 2 o-clock works nicely with this knife.

Loving this knife in general though. After a few cleanings and oilings and working the heck out of it, it's got incredibly smooth action and great lock up.

The CRKT Crawford/Kasper...again for $20, it's a heck of a knife. Cleanings and oilings and working it out have helped it a lot too, very nice action. It's a bit unrefined for sure compared to the Benchmade, but it's a sound piece of steel for sure. Heavy knife. The logical side of me says to go buy three more of them and quit reading this forum. The fun side says the ringed razel in the mail and a mini griptilian and/or lawman would be fun too.

I was able to find an old clip I had with the same hole pattern as the 741. I used my butane torch to fashion it into a foldover, deep carry clip. Now the 741, when clipped to my pocket, is all the way inside with nary a thing showing except the clip on the outside of my pocket. I also cut the clip length down to make it shorter, now 1.75" in length. Then I covered it with black 3M Stair Step tape, think skateboard tape, that hides well against jeans, and other dark pants, and also makes the knife easier to draw by giving your forefinger a excellent purchase on the clip.

Yeah good tip on the low-rider clip.

When I got it, I didn't realize how squirrelly knife carry laws had become in the NJ/NY area. I did my reading after the fact. Now I pretty much don't want it showing at all whenever possible.

I've had a knife in my pocket daily since I was about seven years old without giving it much thought, though much smaller frames than this one. This whole warping of 'gravity knife' thing is just a statement about how far our gov has turned against the people....ridiculous.

Welcome to BF kingsqueak. If you live in the NY/NJ area you should consider coming to a NJ Knife Collectors meeting some time. You don't have to be a member or anything. Just have to like sharp steel. We usually meet every month in Clark NJ. Italian food, frosty libations, good people, amazing knives. It's always a great time.

So the mailman was kind to me today. The CRKT Ringed Razel arrived.

I'm impressed. Solid little sucker with a passable factory edge. Will definitely fix this up with the EdgePro when it arrives tomorrow.

It's a bit small in the handle profile for my hands, but then again I've had it in my pocket all day and it carries well. Hope to work it out a bit this week while I'm off and have time to play.

Sort of warped that it is o.k. to carry a fixed blade around in my pocket but not the 741 (or at least it seems they are murky in legality). This razel seems like it would be useful enough for any time I don't mind it being visible. I doubt most people would associate a knife immediately with the sight of the ring on the handle, which I like.

This is now my second CRKT piece, and for the cash I'm starting to like their stuff quite a bit.

That would be cool depending on timing for the meets, Clark is a bit of a hike from here.

Most likely going to the NYC Knife Show as well.

Usually the third Saturday or Sunday of the month. It takes me about an hour to get there, but it's worth it. I'll be at the NJ show for sure.

Reprofiled the edge of the CRKT Ringed Razel with the EdgePro Apex. For only my fifth edge or so, it came out really well. It's a lot more polished than this lousy cam pic shows. I had to totally re-work the primary bevel with the 120 stone to get it balanced though....took quite a while too.
