My Homemade Grinder

This is my homemade grinder.It uses a 2x72 belt.It can use the flat platten slack belt or 8 in. contact wheel.I have been using it powered by a motor off a air compressor for the last 3 years.2 weeks ago everything went haywire on me,the old motor blewup,the bearings in the rollers went out,and I noticed a dish out in the platten.I have since replaced the motor with one that came off a treadmill machine that is 1 hp.( I still have to cover the ends with a filter ),Replaced the bearings,and made a new face plate for the platten that can be replaced by unscrewing two bolts and putting on a new face.So far I have ground and finish ground 1 blade this weekend and the motor seems to work great.Now I can get back to work and finish up a knife that is on order,It is now late and I hate that,When I promise a blade done I would rather it be done early instead of late....I just wanted to let some of the new makers know that you can build a grinder if you dont want to put out big bucks at first,Bruce.

Oh yea,Bet I have the best looking controller box around.It was a old cookie tin with a fishing scene on it and it only cost $.50 cents at the flea market....Bruce

Gee Whiz! Thats the fanciest control box I've ever seen! I would love to read the report when the archeologist digs this up a couple hundred years from now.
