My hopes for 2010, Any Possible?

All though the new catalogue is still one of the nicest in a marketing stance, the line-up really seems stale. In a tough economy one can understand, and the new knives that are in there are exciting none the less.
So, as I find myself hoping for things that are not in there, I thought I would share them, and maybe extra money and a sprint run will meet up at some point this coming year.
A cool version of the Manix2, that is around the current price. Like orange G-10 or the Terro-Tuff version, what ever that maybe. Foliage Green with the new blade steel just took the wind right out of my sails. Money has always been tight for me, and with three kids, a knife collection does not grow fast. The first Manix2 was exciting with the price point, but then the next one was a killer. My hope is that more Manix2 versions can be around the firsts price point.
Really excited about the FFG Delica run coming, but very nervous about what the price may be, and if there will be enough of them for the smaller collectors to be able to grab them.
I would love to see a full serration Persistence.
I hope to be able to save enough money for a Gayle Bradley before they become too hard to come by.
Well, that is my little list of hopes for the new year.
Feel free to share any that you may, and Merry Christmas to all.

I sincerely hope 2010 is a great year for Spyderco, that the issues which seem to have plagued them this year are a thing of the past, and that the new models they are planning are successful.

Hey Bolt, I don't think your 'hopes' are unreasonable. I'm sure we will eventually see an orange Manix 2, or something else with 154cm. I'd imagine that the FFG Delica/Enduras might be slightly more expensive but shouldn't be too bad. I don't know why there isn't a serrated Persistence since there is a serrated Tenacious, maybe it's a different maker or they just decided not to offer it. I think that's least likely to happen because otherwise it'd already be on the market, but who knows.

Thanx for the comments.

Actually there are more than a couple of new items that are not in the catalog. They're scheduled for the mid year update because they wouldn't be in production before SHOT show.

A few collaborations. An addition to the "Bug, Honeybee" series, an addtion to the "Tempeance, Persistence" series. A couple of Compression Lock designs, A fixed blade, a new Sage, some upgrade on byrd designs, etc. We've all been busy.

You are usually privy to new designs earlier than the regular markets so the catalog maa seem like "old hat" to you.

Thanks for putting up with us on the forums Sal and always keeping us up to date. Merry Christmas!

Stale catalog = Success?

Could it be that a catalog that is very similar to last years mean that Spyderco has a lineup full of successful models?

If there was a lot of turnover every year, that would means that a lot of slow selling knives were dropped to make room for the new ones.

Now if there's anything I'd like to see, its:

Full Flat Grinds, FFGs and more FFGs. Colored FRN and G10 handles of bright blues, purples, oranges, reds and greens. Hurt your eyes bright.

I just want to see the Laci Szabo collaboration. The fixed blade version is awesome. I've always wanted a folder with the intergraded finger guard that Laci puts on most of his knives. That knife will be a radical addition to the spyderco family.

Happy to see that the Comp Lock has not been totally eclipsed by the CBL.
One question though: why not more FFG variations of the Manix 2, especially with premium steels?

FFG Manix 2 in some color G10 other than black, ZDP or M4 (or even some thing more trick) take your pick would be verah nyce. My 154CM Manix 2 is headed to Mr Krein shortly after first of the year. Let him make it right.

I keep hearing wishes for an orange G-10 Manix 2, which is one of my most hoped for models as well. As I mentioned in another thread, a sprint run in FFG M4 would be a dream come true and I think a hot seller.

are there any new byrds? specifically fixed blades? or just updates of existing designs?
