Well that was fast. I ordered in on last Monday evening and it was here on Saturday. My howling rat that is. I know some people have been waiting for many weeks for their knives and I am not trying to rub it in.
My first impressions of the howling rat are that this knife is function before form. It is not a pretty or neat or flashy looking knife. It looks like it is one tough number though. The grip is super! I have small hands and find it nicely sized. The rubber is really grippy, gives a real confident grip on the knife. It was sharpened to a lower finish than I like. I guess it would be great for slicing action. I wanted it to have a finer finish, for push cutting. So I bought some 400 grit paper and sat down at my mouse pad. It does not yet shave hair, I think I need some practice at this sharpening method.
I got to use it tonight for the first time. I was taking out the trash. I had some plastic panels from a car interior. They were too long to fit in the trash can. I was about ready to fire up the table saw when I thought of the rat. I laid the plastic down on the grass and stabbed through the pieces. It took 2 stabs to sufficiently weaken the plastic so I could fold it and break it in half. This was pretty tough plastic that was hard to stab through. I really like the grip. I had total confidence that my hand was not going to slip onto the blade. I would not have done this with any other knife I own.
I like it!!!
