Im pretty new to the forum, I just wanted to post a pic of my collection. I love knives but my wife doesnt and she doesn't understand why i need more than one. If I'm lucky i can get one knife a year and just deal with her being mad for a few days... That being said, I've collected 4 knives over the past few years. I started out with the ZT, then I got the mini griptillian, my dad gave me the battle blade for my ar15 and I just got the paramilitary 2. I love them all but so far I'm liking the spyderco best for edc. I use the ZT at work because the tip is stronger and i build log furniture. I have to strip alot of old bark of logs and sometimes i have to pry to get it off. Have any of you had the tip of a spyderco break off?

Nice collection, you have good variety. As to your question about the Spyderco tips, yes I have heard of tip snapping off when used for things they aren't made to be sued for, like prying. Unfortunately, the company doesn't reblade knives, they will regrind it though. I recall reading an account on here from a member who let a coworker borrow his PM2 and looked just in time to see the idiot snap the tip off trying to pry a radio out of a car... The bottom line is, use a knife to cut, us a screwdriver to drive screws, use a prybar to pry.

Nice collection. What knife are you tinking about getting next :D? Also people have snapped off their spyderco tips, i wouldnt pry with a knife unless it was a gerber, but if you ever snap the zt blade they can replace it for $30 (im pretty sure thats the price.) so your bases are covered on that.

Welcome to the forum, brother! Great start to your collection. And, btw, ask your wife how many purses she has, or how many pairs of shoes, or how many shades of lipstick, etc. And the answer should be the same: Because I want them!

Love your collection! I've heard many similar stores of people's wives with the same attitude :p I'm lucky enough to have been blessed with a fiancé that tolerates my obsession; her attitude is that everybody has their own thing. Though I know she gets sick of hearing about knives :D she likes em though, and has her own favorites of mine, some of which she asks to carry on occasion.

My suggestion to the OP would be to try out a small fixed blade for work. I EDC a Ka-Bar 1117 and it's an amazing knife. It's also relatively unknown, so it's only ~$30, and is made of 1095 Cro-van, which is the same as the BK-line knives.

It's small enough to slip right into a pocket, and I find a paracord wrap very ccomfortable. I torture mine frequently by twisting and prying; it's thick enough that you won't lose the tip and there's no lock to loosen.

Your wife doesn't have to like knives, that is your hobby. If she doesn't understand why you need more than one, it is because you like knives and want to own as many as you can afford, similar to her purse and shoe collection. The part about you being lucky to purchase a knife a year and her being mad is total BS. Once your financial obligations are met, such as rent or mortgage, utility bills, groceries, etc you deserve to indulge yourself. Many spouses blow their money on drugs, booze, gambling and other sorts of vices. At least with good quality knives if the need arises you can always sell them. Good luck with your hobby and your wife.

For the few folders you do have they are all awesome. I've spent more money than I'd care to admit on knives and the Paramilitary II, ZT0350, and MiniGrip are all easily in my top 20.
Be sure to choose wisely if you can only get 1 knife a year. So when your wife does come around let us know your budget and requirements and you'll have no end of great suggestions.
Welcome to the forums!

Thanks for the support everyone! When i bought my spyderco and she got mad i reminded her if how much jewelry she has and that helped haha. Thats good to know about the tips of the paramilitary easily breaking off, ill remember to use it only for cutting. I live how thick the zt is i will continue to use it at work especially since i can get the blade replaced for $30! I have yet to find a use for my tanto blade as i keep it sheathed on my ar15 and i don't get to go out shooting as much as I'd like to. Im purchasing a belt sheath for it so I'll be able to start using it more. I like taking the benchmade with me when i go to the city. (i live in rural utah). Im not sure what knife i want next but I'm hoping i can get one for Christmas. I think it will be another zt or a spyderco. I would love a nice Hinderer design or maybe the spyderco sage or chaparal.

I don't know what state you are in, but if it's legally permissible you might want to think about and auto as your next addition.

In Utah the law is pretty much anything goes unless you have committed a felon. In that case you aren't allowed to carry a dangerously long knife. At least this is what ive read.. I've never really looked into autos though. I might hold off until my children are out of the house though just in case one of them were to get a hold of it!
