Sorry for the lack of photos but it is one of the DOTD Chainpuri Khukuri from 2/20. It is not an HI :blue: But it is a Fair Trade that Auntie Yangdu felt was good enough for one of her customers so I am pretty happy to have gotten it while I wait for a true HI AK. Besides, it really isn't for me but for my husband, the AK will be mine :D

Quick shipping and it is a beautiful tool. I think I am going to have to steal someone's tag line..."I think I have an problem"... HIKV isn't that what it is called? I can see this becoming a very expensive virus...

Anyways, Just had to share the wonderful happy feeling of a new Khuk in the hand.

it is a serious illness, really glad to have you with us shavru, and eventually all will be well with birgorhka factory and we will get many more true HI offerings, even if the other fair trade items are great, there is something special about the kami marked HI blades--- don't be afraid to email yangdu, she may have something in stock ( though I am not sure we may be completely barren in the cupboards until the factory gets solid again)

I picked up a really nice horn sheathed fair trade of Dharan, has loads of cool , I still love my HI blades the most though, soul of the blade and all that -- and the chainpuri offerings are really well made- I am sure both of you will enjoy the knife and even more when you get your AK

the main reason most of us prowl the DOTD is to escape the expense part of the virus, but if you have the money it goes to a great cause when you pay full price

I for one am tickled to have a lady on board. Kind of nice to mix it up some around here. And buying hubby a blade, well your aces in my book.

PS- Don't try to fight the disease, it only makes it worse, it's like scratching a rash or something, hard to explain but the only cure is lots of knife storage space and a paper route don't hurt none either.

LoL, thanks guys. I look forward to learning lots here. Hubby and I are both ex military, and mild (not paranoid and only mildly crazy) weapons collectors guns and edged. So a new blade is a great gift for either of us. We are also starting to find out about forging and making some of our own knives. I found this forum by going to the HI website but I am also finding a lot of other subforums that are really interestng. But I will email Yangdu and see what might be available that I can pick up that might scratch the itch. I understand the whole thing about the personality of the HI blades. That is why I am so anxious to get one, even the pictures of them speak to me. And when possible, I will have no problem paying the full amount, I think even at that price they are great value for what they are and I fully support the cause. Unfortunately I will hope to balance full price with hopefully winning a DOTD or 2 as well since finances are a little sparse the last couple months. Since this is a long term virus that I don't see being cured anytime soon, hopefully there will be lots of opportunity and with patience over time I will be able to acquire a collection similar to some of the ones I see you guys posting.

dont be shy about hitting the collections thread and showing off your guns or whatever kind of things you have already collected while you work on your HI grouping :D

What's the deal with the Chainpuri Khukuri's? Who makes them, how does HI aquire them, and why no Kami marks? I just picked one up also, and I really love the carved scabbard (main reason I bought one), but I did not know they are not HI made until I noticed the missing Kami mark.

I explained this here:
Gentlemen, you don't seem to understand.
These are souvenirs of Nepal. They are high quality fair trade display items.
Not all souvenir khukuri are poorly made, soft bladed items. Some are very nice.
They are not made by HI, but by Kami of the Chainpur region. HI has no control over how they are marked.
They are hand selected by the shop for offering here. They are warranted for manufacturing defects only.

Shavru, funds are mighty sparse here of late (call me a toothless shark) but I'm giving you a pass here. If I nail something on DOD that sings to you don't hesitate to contact me and we'll talk about it. I find that while there's no cure for the khuk disease, sharing and letting someone else get one now and then and sometimes gifting one is kind of like morphine, kind of helps ease the pain and actually makes me feel kinda good at the same time.

If you send me your wall and Gehazi his pile , I will guarantee you both a lifetime of morphenic bliss. ;) :p :D

I am working on a karda care package have no fear, and its full of knives, just haven't gotten all the bits in yet sir, but you have some artifacts coming to you

and same here shavru, just check out the photobucket, especially if you like some chitlangi I have the most repeats of that type -- but I prefer always that money goes to auntie first if at all possible, but am more than willing , like others to help pick up the slack for fellow infectees.

@Bawanna Having lurked a couple days and trying to read up as much as I could so I wouldn't be completely un-couth when discussing HI Kuhks I know just how much that offer means from you and I thank you for the thought. I am guessing that patience will be rewarded and I intend to be here a long time. I am pretty sure that I will be able to acquire all the HI's I desire. So please, anything you have the opportunity to pull the trigger on don't worry, I am sneaky. I will get my fair share and that is all I ask LOL.

Karda, From what I see in the collections post either one of those 2's collections would certainly cause morphenic bliss. At least for the person getting them hehe.

Sneaky is good and you'll go far, and fair well here my dear.

Incidently I've been here for awhile now and my couth or lack thereof is still highly in question. I try to stay under the radar and on Karda's good side but I see Gehazi is sucking up far better than I ever can so I better be even more careful I reckon.

Welcome Shavru, we could use another shark over here, tis a blessing and curse here as the virus takes you and there's no turning back and wife and husband team ohh boy. We look forward to see what ya snag up. Enjoy and let the games begin.

Thank you also for the offer, but I am guessing that with time Auntie will be able to supply my addiction. As I mentioned, funds lately have been a bit sparse, so I am in no rush. In fact a nice steady but slow pace will allow me to fill out a collection with some wonderful HI articles yet also allow me to continue paying my grocery bills ect LOL. Slow and steady my collection will grow and I will enjoy each and every new acquisition to the maximum because of the wait between items.

Hehe, well, I meant more along the lines of not using a pull through sharpener on a Kuhk or having to ask someone what the "tiny little knives" that came with my Kuhk were for? That sort of thing. As far as a civilizing influence implication, I am probably not the right person to address that LOL. I have been a tomboy since so long ago that my husband has to help me choose clothes if we are going somewhere I have to dress up, and I still choose dresses based on how I am going to be able to wear a conceal carry with it. And if you have ever seen what I can do to a bowl of chicken wings and mug of beer during football season, well, lets just say there are many meanings to culture, but I probably offend every single one of them.

Welcome, Shavru, and good luck with your sharking!

Thank you Philllll and Pugs75. Though I might circle with the Sharks, I am more a Whale Shark. Large and unwield...errr no I mean slow and..err no.. more...
Seriously I am thinking I will not be much of a threat at all. I will be keeping my eyes open but it will be a long and slow pace collecting. Aside from the needing to be conservative of my finances these days, I enjoy the find part almost as much as the getting it part so I intend to make the most of my opportunities but slowly and steadily. For me collecting isn't a rush to gather everything I can it is more finding pieces that I identify with. If it is an antique I love the history and the story of the piece. If it is new I still look for that story. That is why the HI Kuhk's speak to me. The HI story, why HI even exists and what it's goals were and are, as well as the opportunity to own something unique. Even though there are hundreds of HI kuhks of each style each one is a unique piece. Each Kami has a style and each piece of metal has a story and when you combine the 2 it never comes out exactly the same way twice. In a world where increasingly everyone wants everything exactly the same and things are stamped out by the thousands for highest profit the uniqueness of each piece means more to me. So I intend to enjoy myself here and look forward to many acquisitions. Both to appease my new addiction and to offer my support to what I see as a great company offering an awesome product and doing it to make a positive difference in many people's lives.

Shavru - it sounds like your husband is a lucky man! And welcome to the addiction!

Thank you, on the topic of my husband's luck lets just say that he has put up with me for long enough that most of my bad habits don't annoy him anymore,
I think after all these years it would be tough to break in a new spouse so we both focus on the things we enjoy about each other and overlook the rest. Or as one of my favorite George Carlin sayings go "Don't sweat the petty things and don't pet the sweaty things"

Note to self. No more carbonated beverages while reading Shavru post. Another keyboard bites the dust.

George Carlin and Ron "Tater Salad" White are my heros! You gotta be Khul!

Ron White, Dang I would love to see him live. Being of a certain age I understand his comedy. I grew up in small town Louisiana back in the late 60s early 70s. So most of his jokes fit my rememberance of the way it was. Besides how can you not like a comedian that has a cut crystal glass of Scotch in one hand and a cigar in the other in this day and age of everyone busily trying to not offend anyone.
