Reading a recent post about quality issues with a knife that a poster had, it prompted me to write a follow up thread to a posting I made a few months back regarding a 110 that I purchased and was a little unhappy with the quality of.

A few people made it sound like I was just a complainer but most gave some really amazing comments that were very helpful.

In the end, Joe Houser gave me the best explanation about my issues with the 110. (I'll get to that later)

I can now post my impressions of BUCK as a company and as a manufacturer of knives with a bit more knowlege and experience as I have aquired a number of new knives.

Got 3 custom 110's, a 119, a 120, a 105 and a bunch of diamondback's for the kitchen.

I can say this of Buck, their quality is outstanding, especially with the fixed blades.

Their customer service and friendliness however, is what really takes the cake.

Joe Houser and Pete Mason (and I'm sure the rest of the people at Buck) will really go the extra mile to make you happy and ensure that any problem is fixed and any request is given due importance.

For this reason alone, the company should be supported as there are very few companies that still operate in this fashion.

YES... there are some 110's that might come out a bit wonky but Joe gave me the best explanation of why. In fact, it may be a good piece of information for all people who are thinking of buying a 110.

He said basically that through the years, Buck has found that the general market of people who buy the 110 are not that worried about perfection in the little details as long as it does it's job well. I am taking that to mean that small things like mismatched scales, slights off round rivets and a little scratch here or there doesn't really detract from the knife's popularity.

I think I was buying a 110 with the idea that it was going to be like a victorinox, just with a bigger knife... I was VERY off in my expectation. If you were to judge a 110 by that, I would agree that it may not cut the mustard...but in all other regards...it'll cut anything.

I have grown to like mine a lot (after exchanging a couple :) and have bought three more from the custom shop.

Now as far as the fixed blade stuff goes (119, 120, 105)... I haven't seen anything that would qualify as a manufacturing defect...even the sheaths are really amazing in how they fit and look.

Just as a note, I think the sheath for the 110 could be cooler...something that fits it more like a glove...after all, the 110 is curved but the sheath is not. The fixed blades get MUCH cooler sheaths in my opinion.

Anyways, thanks for all the help and info guys.

Send me a 102 if you liked any of the stuff I've written. I'd appreciate it.

Nice msg Aza.
I thought the "cut the mustard" comment was clever. ;)

Got pics of those customs you could post?

Actually, believe it or not, I haven't seen them yet. One is on it's way...the other two are at my Dad's house in Michigan. I will see them in about a week or so. But I will definately put the pics up when I see them! :)

Excellent follow up words!!! Good Job....

and what a cheesy way of asking for a freebie....:p .... wish I had a thought of it...:D :D
