So - I am now the proud owner of 4 of John's work. I have The Tool, a Hunter's Hatchet, a Supporter Knife, and a custom knife. All in ironwood and all wonderfully done.

My recent haul (I already had The Tool):

Here is a comparison of the original primitive knife and the more modern version that I asked John to create a for me. He did a great job and, as I would expect, the result was exactly what I was looking for. Case Peanut included for size.

The custom is a hefty, heavy duty knife. I'm quite sure that it could take any amount of abuse that one would choose to throw at it. The handle is comfortable and the choil would allow one to use a large knife like this for more detailed work.

The supporter knife has already gotten a lot of use. It is light yet strong and fits the hand much better than I would have thought that a knife of that size would. It is a really good back pocket design. If you are a supporter and don't have yours yet - get one. I love mine.

The hatchet has already seen some use but not as a hunters tool (yet). I couldn't resist and used it to take down a 2" cedar tree branch that was getting in the way of a path that I use on my property. It did a nice job. The branch was overhead and growing downward, so I had to reach up to cut the branch away. The light weight of the hatchet was perfect for overhead work. When I'm done with posting some pics and such today, I have to clean the blade. If you look closely you can see the residue of the branch still on the blade. BTW - after cutting the branch, I was still able to slice paper with the edge much like you would do with a knife. I expected it to need a sharpening. Nope. ;)

But my favorite is still The Tool. That knife is my favorite fixed blade. Perfect in size and heft. Great design. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it a few months ago and my enjoyment of that particular knife has just grown since then. When I head out to work on my property, it is almost always on my belt.

Thanks, John! I love your work and really am enjoying these tools. I'll certainly be getting more from you as time goes on. I have a list! Lol! :D

Great collection!

Ironwood is some pretty stuff and it looks fantastic on your knives!

Very nice! I like the way your replica knife turned out - and you just have to love the ironwood!

Thanks for the pictures -

best

Thanks, everyone. I'm rightly proud to own John's work. And it is my intention to continue with the ironwood theme. Next up will be a folder in ironwood. I can't wait to see that one finished!

But I may order one JK Knife not in ironwood as I promised Wife a knife from John next year and she may want something other than ironwood. Not even sure which knife she is going to want. She actually has her own little knife collection (8?), mostly Benchmades because she likes the Axis lock and she confiscated my Kershaw Wild Turkey, so she has that too. :(

Very nice.
I love that original antler handle, but prefer the durability of the full tang, especially with such nice Ironwood.

It also warms my heart to hear such praise for the Tool.:)

Beautiful collection so far.

The Tool is highly underated. When I did the one recently with the full height grind, I really liked it!

Great collection there!

Yeah,I debated with myself about full flat or saber grinds & decided that since it would be my camping and/or last ditch knife to go with the slight strength advantage of the saber grind.
I'll bet that last one is a slicin' sun of a gun.

Like the ironwood theme, good choice.

I've considered getting a tool, but that just hasn't worked out yet. mykel m did an excellent job designing that one.

Great collection Michael, my first knife from John was a Riverwoods Companion in ironwood.
