So - I am now the proud owner of 4 of John's work. I have The Tool, a Hunter's Hatchet, a Supporter Knife, and a custom knife. All in ironwood and all wonderfully done.
My recent haul (I already had The Tool):
Here is a comparison of the original primitive knife and the more modern version that I asked John to create a for me. He did a great job and, as I would expect, the result was exactly what I was looking for. Case Peanut included for size.

All 3 fixed blades:
The custom is a hefty, heavy duty knife. I'm quite sure that it could take any amount of abuse that one would choose to throw at it. The handle is comfortable and the choil would allow one to use a large knife like this for more detailed work.
The supporter knife has already gotten a lot of use. It is light yet strong and fits the hand much better than I would have thought that a knife of that size would. It is a really good back pocket design. If you are a supporter and don't have yours yet - get one. I love mine.
The hatchet has already seen some use but not as a hunters tool (yet). I couldn't resist and used it to take down a 2" cedar tree branch that was getting in the way of a path that I use on my property. It did a nice job. The branch was overhead and growing downward, so I had to reach up to cut the branch away. The light weight of the hatchet was perfect for overhead work. When I'm done with posting some pics and such today, I have to clean the blade. If you look closely you can see the residue of the branch still on the blade. BTW - after cutting the branch, I was still able to slice paper with the edge much like you would do with a knife. I expected it to need a sharpening. Nope.
But my favorite is still The Tool. That knife is my favorite fixed blade. Perfect in size and heft. Great design. I was pleasantly surprised when I got it a few months ago and my enjoyment of that particular knife has just grown since then. When I head out to work on my property, it is almost always on my belt.
Thanks, John! I love your work and really am enjoying these tools. I'll certainly be getting more from you as time goes on. I have a list! Lol!
