My Ka Bars

Use a chemical stripper for the coating. Found in the paint aisle of a big box store. How heavy is your BOB?

Chemical stripper with some scotchbrite and a razor blade-got mine at a hardware store. Next time around I'll get the Autozone-made aircraft grade stripper-its supposed to be powerful stuff.

A USMC next to a Schrade spearpoint. Its a cheap china made Schrade but for 23 buck delivered to my door, well its fun to mess with while watching TV.

A neat story about that Schrade knife. The original Imperial-Schrade Corporation never made an OId Timer knife that was designed as a weapon. Except one, a prototype boot knife. I believe that knife was on display at Schrade until 2004 when the factory closed, and it seems that knife is now in private hands and owned by a BladeForums member - I've only seen a picture of it.

That Taylor-Schrade import is obviously inspired from that prototype.

After the Imperial-Schrade Corporation closed, the entire contents of the factory were sold off. Included were semi-trucks of knives, knife parts, and even the factory knife collection. Even now eight years later, some of those unfinished knives and knife parts are still being finished into working knives and are being sold on eBay and elsewhere.

Another interesting thing happened in 2004 in the final weeks before the factory was locked. Workers were frantically assembling knives from available parts. Practically anything that fit was being pieced together, even materials and parts that wouldn't normally be mated. Schrade blades in Old Timer knives, Old Timer blades into Uncle Henry handles, etc. Fascinating stuff.
