I was outside yesterday and i had some fatwood sticks i was splitting up I guess i just got careless . I was almost finished when the knife went through faster than i was expecting. Needless to say after a four hour emergency room visit and three stitches later they sewed up the half inch deep slash on my index finger. The cut was at the very base of my index finger right before it connects to my hand. I know i should have had on some gloves but man that is a sharp knife. Went through the flesh like it was hot butter. The guy who sewed me up said that it was a nice clean cut. Thankfully no nerve or tendon damage. Moral of the story- i dont guess there is one. Crap happens.:D:D

Sometimes things like this are good, they make us open our eyes to what could have happened and we are then more careful. Glad to hear you still have your finger:).

Ouch! Glad to hear that there was no major damage. Here's hoping it heals quickly. You gotta stay focused around sharp knives, 'cuz they'll get you.

Three and half hours of waiting and thrity minutes of stitching and a tetnis shot. There was alot of people there. Just my luck, I was two and half hours late for work:D

uh.... How where you splitting the pieces of fatwood? Were you holding the piece in one hand while pusing with the knife in the other? If you were splitting it battoning it... I can't think of any way were your finger was in the path of the blade. Glad to hear you are ok anyway.

Dude, that sucks. Reminds me of my friend and a knife. He was trying to cut open a bagel with a dull serrated bread knife and his sister pushed him. Needless to say he cut himself (sort of) and got 5 stitches. He even called me before even bothering to go to the hospital! HE COULD EVEN SEE THE BONE! When he came home later that day with a cast around the cut and his sister asked him he wanted to play Guitar hero with her. TOO SOON!

I cut myself at least once with every blade I own...

Makes for some nice scars over the years ;-)

Thanks for the heads up.

I'll be keeping a little closer eye on my Kabar for a while. :)

Glad you came out of it ok.

lol yea.. I was thinkin the same thing. I went that deep with a knock off fully serrated spyderco into my index finger. 2 blood soaked dishtowels later and I was good. lol. Totally kidding. (about being the wimp part, my story was true)

Better an accidental slice than an accidental bullet hole!

Especially for something non life threatening like a simple finger lac.

Just for everyone's benefit, cuts (incisions) are not lacerations. Lacerations are more tear like wounds caused by blunt trauma. Thank my forensic nursing class for that tidbit.

That sucks. Now you have something to remind you of that knife for the rest of your life. The knife I can't forget is my Ontario Spec Marine. 8 stitches across the back of my left middle finger and 1hr in the ER (private hospital). If I had gone to the public hospital, I would have waited until I passed out from blood loss.
