My BGRS has been keeping me up at night whimpering for company. I tried the old puppy trick of wrapping up an alarm clock in a towel for it to sleep with, but it didn't help

Now I must accumulate funds rapidly. I find myself looking at some of my guns thoughtfully. Do I really need ALL of those?
I wouldn't normally think of selling or trading guns for knives but my guns don't have souls. Well, maybe my East German Makarovs and certainly my Finn Moisin-Nagant.
But the others.....
Now that I have an HI Khuk to handle I'm leaning towards an 18"Sirupati as my next purchase, or maybe a BAS. My BGRS is a perfect house blade but I now want something lighter to carry hiking/hunting. Yvsa's design would probably be great but I'll have to wait awhile to afford it. Any opinions on the 18"Sirupati or BAS?

thanks,
Patrick

I would go with the BAS for a lighter blade. The Sirupati is a bit narrow (looks like a snake) and thickens up too fast for me. The BAS will cut better but the Sirupati will split and has less chance of getting stuck.

Personally, I'd opt for the 12" Sirupati for hiking or hunting.

Then again, I've never needed to do much chopping during my outings.

However, in answer to your question about the BAS, I think it is one of the best all around khukuris and doesn't get enough attention. It rides shotgun with me daily.

I second the BAS for hiking and backpacking. That is what I take when I go out and it performs well without weighing you down.

I don't have a BAS, but I can tell you an 18" sirupati is a dandy little khukuri. I'd think it's an excellent camp knife . . . It's fast enough to bite vines, brush, etc. without just sweeping them aside, will drop pretty hefty saplings with 1-3 strokes, and isn't so nose-heavy you can't use it for a little general slicing.

And it's purty, too.
