hello all, im new to the forum but I've been a serious metalworker for about a year and a half now.

I just wanted to talk about a project I'm starting, and maybe get some feedback/suggestions from the experience out there.

i began blacksmithing last year but didn't get into it too much, I'm still in love with blades i took a break for the winter and now im back working with the stock removal method, i still have my forge for the heat treating, and tempering. The project I'm starting is a 4 to 5 peice kitchen set, mirror polished scrap steel, hammons, wood handles, and possibly some filework. (i love filework) this is going to be the first big project I've ever done and i'm very excited. I will be posting pictures shortly of design and the progression.

Sounds awesome Twalsh. What are your plans for the filework? Are you going to file in some scalops or serrations?

Cleaver? I assume you want forged scrap steel from springs?

i've been surfing arround looking at different makers filework for ideas, through everything i still love simple vinework so i think i will stick to that. I'm not a big fan of serrated blades for food, becasue it tears instead of cuts. i also like the clean lines i think serrations would take away from the design.

the cleaver is a nice idea, so far I have a cheifs knife a carving knife carving fork. a cleaver pearing and bread knives would make a nice set dont you think?

I have most of the steel I will need i got a whole bunch of scrap steel plate from my job, we build industrial control pannels and there are a lot of cutouts in the plates and enclosures, i get those. the only downside is i have no idea what kind of steel it is, and there is usually paint on one or both sides but that burns off in the fire and is usefull for layout.
