So for all you guys/girls that travel...

Do you take your RAT knives when you travel, and if so... any issues with checking them in for international flights. Like I stated before, I go to central america often, and each trip becomes more and more remote. But I kind of stress over packing my RAT knife and giving the bag to some stranger to make sure it gets to some central america country:eek:

so I guess, just asking about your travel experience. Also do airport security doesn't give you guys grief over medical emergency stuff being packed, like suture needles or disposable scalpels???

thanks

we never flew international. i can tell you when we do fly we hide our goods in the cargo pockets of a random pair of pants. usually. this past time i had the baby with us so we hid them in her diapers! my bag go searched on the way home and nothing was taken.

as far as emergency medical stuff the only thing i ever carried was an epi pen and i check it in my luggage. i've never had a problem with it.

I fly to Central Africa monthly and have gone through this a lot. I make sure to put all of my important documents on my person or in my carry on bag. The important items (knives, suture kit, injection kit, etc) that I can't carry I pack in different locations of my checked luggage. I would suggest that you place them in the center of your bag for both security and protection. I pack using numerous small bags in my large duffel bags for organization. I will wrap my sensitive items in clothing in the separate locations.

I have not had any problems (yet) with packing this way.

Is there a limit or rule, like you cant pack into you check on luggage a knife longer then...
For example, if I get a RC-6, will that be a issue on a check on bag?

I just sent a box full of knives to Colombia in advance of our trip. I sent them to a contact their via USPS so that way I don't have the extra weight and have to clear Customs with them.

As long as it is safely packed, there are no airline rules on carrying knives in your checked luggage. Thievery and customs are a different matter. Every country is going to have different rules as to what they allow and customs people seem to make up new regs as they go. Normally, if they don't see it you are good to go. Bury it in your other gear and or clothing.

Never had a single question asked about my emergency med pack, ...but they did confiscate my Tortuga Jerk sauce. Apparently, you can cut a pilot to pieces with a hole set of scalpels and sew him back together with his arms and legs attached to the wrong stumps, but you are NOT allowed to make your steak or chicken taste better.:grumpy:

Turtle jerk sauce? I would have confiscated that just on principle!
