There is a small military section in our local flea market that sells those cases for a decent price. I wanted one but didn't immediately think of a use. Now I have a good reason to take a trip out there.
 
old ammo cans make for good use although they may be a little musty sometimes. even watertight.

I keep all my sharpening stuff that will fit in a can the same size.
