A buddy of mine is a big fan of 'tactical folders', you could say.

He loves ZT, the Umnumzaan, but never buys any knives for himself.

I'm looking for a gift for him to reignite his love of knives, maybe somewhere around $50?

He hates plastic handles, and likes a knife with lots of straight knives instead of curves.

Thanks,

How about a Kershaw Leek?

Take a look at the Kershaw Spec Bump with stonewashed blade. You can pick one up for ~ $50.

Mm, a Spec Bump is an excellent idea.

He does like black coated blades though.

I should have mentioned...mid sized, maybe? 3.5"?

If you want to spend another $10 or so look at the NEW Cold Steel Recon 1 with the triad lock. I have a tanto and I have a clip point on order. Also take a look at the other cold steel triad lock knives, if you want to spend a little more cash that is.
If you don't want to spend any more, boker makes some good knives in 440c, and or course kershaw is almost always a good choice.

i just picked up one of the leatherman expanse series knife on the recommendation of another forum member. the large lockback version with bottle opener was less than $50. its 154 cm, made in usa, strong and hefty. the knife has some plastic in the handle, but its pretty nice.

If he likes his knives to have clean straight lines then I don't think he's going to enjoy a Spec Bump. That knife is all curve.

I say OD-1. Clean straight blade. Nice little flipper that tucks away when open. G-10 non-lock side and SS frame lock side with Hinderer lockstop. And with tip up/tip down capability. All for under $50.
