Well dinner anyhow.... I have destroyed two can openers this month and the last one tonight. I looked and had no others in the kitchen. I then started to think of which hi dollar wiz bang superknife to use to open the can, then maybe a sawzall, torch, plasma cutter???? Then I remembered my old friend- a Champion... it saved me from being without my vegetable serving!!! A true hero!!!:D

how do you destroy a can opener?

Paul has an "anger issue." We don't discuss it. Let's just say that it's a good thing that Mrs. Paul (she makes those fish sticks, you know) is a fast ducker.

:D

I've had hand powered can openers from Wal-Mart that don't work as well as my Victornox Spartan. It's amazing that something so small works so well.

It beats the heck out of shoving a cork down the neck of of wine bottle too :D

The Victorinox can openers are really good working and reliable. But some years ago on a canoe trip in South Sweden we had to open 15 big cans with only two swiss army knifes for dinner, and that was a long job

I have no idea how I killed them. I have never destroyed one before in the 26 years I have been cooking. The first I was not surprised by. It was a cheap one from the dollar store but the one in the picture was a "safety cut" type from culinare. The juncture of where the handle you turn and the stud it attatches too was where the handles on both split. I am not exactly "little" and my hands though maybe not as strong as ten years ago, seem to have some strength to them. I am guessing that maybe I squeeze too hard while trying to turn the cutter? I do agree that the SAK cut well but is SLOW....

Now as far as my anger "issue", Gollnick I thought that WE are not supposed to talk about that out of group, nor about the AA meetings ;) ...

edited to change cuisinart to culinare....

I drive my wife nuts when we're cooking because, when I need to open a can, I'll sooner reach into my pocket for the old Vic Spartan than walk over to the drawer that has our can opener. When I was living in Europe for awhile as a bachelor, my entire supply of kitchen stuff consisted of a few pots and pans and plates, some silverware and my SAK. I must have opened 1,000 cans with my Victorinox. :D

I usualy just stab a knife into the top and cut it open with the knife, as long as its good steel(D2/L6/O1/S30V/BG42) It does hardly and damage to the edge, nothing you cant use a steel to fix in 30 seconds.

The only can openers I own are attached to Victorinox SAKs. In the kitchen, we use an old, beat up Victorinox Pioneer as a bottle opener and can opener. Works great.

I use my SAK can openers almost exclusively in the kitchen. My wife looks at me funny, but I think it works just as well if not better than the other can openers we have in the drawer, plus it has the added advantage of being attached to a knife.

Slow? SLOW? There's not an electric can opener in the world I can't outopen (Victorinox, VICTORINOX! Wenger fans need not apply).

BTW, have never sharpened the can opener on a Victorinox.

Buy a SWING-A-WAY 407 can opener. They last forever.

I'll second that, keep this in mind it was the official can opener for Sky Lab, and the Shuttle, if it was good enough for NASA, it's good enough for me.

Those suckers last forever, and I'll bet you can get them for about $200 less than NASA. ;) :D

It´s so cool! I feel so f!!!ing male-ish when I open the cans in the
kitchen with my Victorinox and my girlfriend looks att me like I`m
nuts...(lol). Those knives are one of the best tools to have in your
pocket!
