My Knife Spooked My Co-worker

So yesterday I was showing a co-worker my new Emerson Traveler (I love it) and another co-worker saw me showing it and went off on me stating that "There should be company rules about people bringing that sort of thing to work." She said she felt it presented a threat. I told her put a little more effort into minding her own business. Needless to say, I went on the carpet over that comment and was politely asked to not display it again and if possibly, use one of the snap off blades from the tool crib that the company provides. Now, my blade is within legal limits in my state, this person had to make an effort to actually see me showing it to another co-worker. Granted my comment may not have been appropriate but, are we to that point where people are that concerned over a person in their midst carrying a pocket knife? I won't substitute it for a snap off slide blade and I will continue to carry it (without displaying it in such a manner I guess). My question is, am I wrong to feel this way or should I bend and leave it at home in order to pacify a Chicken Little co-worker who peels her organic grown apple with a banana while singing Kumbaya? One thing I might add is in no way is my job at risk over this issue since my blade does fall within the company's appropriate length/style for a pocket knife- I was told it was a "Harmony In The Work Place Issue". Sorry for the rant, I was a little ticked off over it...no I wasn't, damitt... I was flat pissed off...what do you guys think?

Ah sheeples...they are everywhere.

I have my folders all the time. I guess people are immune to SAK or Case-esque folder where no quick deployment's available. But still you managed to find some came to you and said: Dude that's a WEAPON.

I told them chopstick's a weapon too.

My country stated that blade under 2.5" is legal. As long as i don't flip them around kids and use it real quick on things i need to cut in office : Paper, ropes, adhesive tapes and etc and keep it locked i think it doesn't hurt.

Just last week this sheeple was asking for help with a bottle opener we don't have. I took out my HEST folder with my palms covering the profile of blade so it would look like a tool to him. Having the bottle opened he was quite disturbed that i have such "tool" ready inside my pocket and he went off without "thank you".

Oh yes, i almost forgot. he 's the one that lent and misplaced my scissors and cutters. Now who's WHO being irresponsible:mad:?

There will always be one around someplace that will cause issues if they can.

Yes, she should have been minding her own business and for management to agree with her is very bad on management.

If I was the Manager I would have told her to mind her own business and if she pressed the issue I would have fired her on the spot.

You got called on the carpet for telling someone to mind their own business over something that wasn't any of their business? Pretty goofy. Sounds to me like you're a model of restraint and deserve to be commended as such. Sounds like your co-worker is a real PITA.

My boss has, on more than one occasion, pulled a pistol out and said to me "Look what I picked up over the weekend". I completely understand where you're coming from though, thankfully, I do not share your pain.

I think the woman is a typical liberal who is afraid of everything not in her control. That said jobs are tough to come by so be careful.

Almost impossible to come by so yeah I agree.

I agree and I hate it when people question my need to carry a knife or when they imply that a knife is nothing but a dangerous and deadly weapon with no role in modern society. These people are ignorant, cowardly, and annoying. A knife is a tool and grrggggggggggg. See you made me mad now...

I was told it was a "Harmony In The Work Place Issue".

Harmony in the workplace would have been better served by the boss telling her to mind her own business. Why is it always up to the rest of us to placate the whiners? She was interfering with a legal item.

That said, avoid her. Use your knife properly, and if asked why you aren't using the company cutters, tell them your knife is safer-- better lock, better grip, stronger blade.

That is an excellent point....turn it into a safety concern on your behalf.

That's what liberals do. Emasculate through whining.

Liberals... They say people are free and have rights... except own and carry fire arms and sharp objectives. Carrying knife properly helps alot in these situations and one reason I don't flick knife open in public nor use assist openers in public. In woods, who cares if I scare squirrel or two.

If someone ever comes to complain about knife how dangerous it is and its weapon I just shrug and say: Its tool for me. If you're concerned about weapons, I could kill you bare handed... but I love peace and I am against violence of any kind.

Not exactly, THEY have all the rights and try and take away everyone elses or ban things they don't like.

How about filing a harassment complaint with HR since she's pestering you over something that isn't against company policy? Otherwise, you should be able to complain about everything she does and get equal treatment, unless they want to discriminate against you.

Welcome to our new world...This is exactly what happened to legal law abiding citizens that want to carry firearms in cities where the concealed weapon permits are issued but certain cities within that state think they know better and out right ban all firearms. It will happen with knives as well. We as a county go out of our way not to offend anyone and hand over our constitutional rights without thought. We are doing it with handguns, cigarettes, airports or anything else some liberal might find offensive and decides to impose their will.:barf:

Make your voice heard publicly and vote in all your elections so people know where you stand on issues like these.

I'm happy that I don't need to worry about anything like that where I work. We have a CCW policy and pistol lock boxes in the men and womens locker rooms. :)

No, you're not out of line for being pissed about that. Even for non-knife people, common courtesy says she should shut up and leave everyone else alone.
