My Knives

Hey All, I'm new to the forum and would like to introduce myself and share a pic of my custom knives. My name's Jose and I live in NYC, I'm 27 years old and have held a life long fascination with knives.

Here are my knives:

On top is a large camp knife made by Ed Schempp with a stainless wrap on a 52100 core.

Below that is an Ed Fowler knife with a 52100 blade, this is my usual carry knife.

Then comes a knife Ed Schempp made for a hemp rope cutting contest. It was crafted using a complicated method with chainsaw link and "powdered" metal if my memory serves me. It has a nice pattern on the blade that didn't show up well in the pic. If anyone's interested I can try taking a better pic.

Below that is my first "custom" knife, a Randall with possibly an O1 blade.

Below that is the gem of my collection, my "Iron Mistress", An Ed Fowler bowie with 52100 blade.

Last but not least, a Don Fogg shiv. A simple elegant design, the handle is somewhat uncomfortable but the grip is very secure. I cannot imagine any circumstance where your grip would slip.

Those are my knives and I would like to see pics of your favorites, if possible, in reply.

Welcome to Bladeforums Jose. :)

By your description, it would seem you have some very nice knives there. Unfortunately, it looks like you tried to post the picture directly from your C-drive, which is why no one else here can see it.

In order to get the picture to come up, you'll need to upload it to an image-hosting site, or upgrade your membership and use the Bladeforums image posting protocol.

I'm looking forward to seeing the pic - especially that Ed Fowler bowie!

Hey all,

Thanks for the info, I see what I did wrong and I'll try to have the pic up as soon as possible. I've upgraded my membership so I should be able to get it on here.

Wulf, You have an excellent collection, I especially liked the Conny Persson art knife. It reminds me of the work being done by Roger Bergh. The handle wrapping on your Blackwood Sniperboy is the same as on my Fogg shiv only you did a better job describing the sure grip that style affords.

I can't wait to see what the knives you have on order look like.

Bigbore,

You have some nice knives. You guys have some really good pictures too, when I do get mine up the quality won't be as high. BTW, loved your black dog and his white mustashe...:)

It doesn't look like I can edit my original post to include the pic so I'll try posting it here...

Very Nice!
You have a very beautiful group of knives there, its very apparent that you have good taste.

Welcome to Bladeforums, I'm sure you'll like it around here. :D

Jose,

um... WOW!

Those are absolutely stunning! The Fowler bowie is simply awesome, and that big one by Ed Schemp is something to behold as well - the pattern on that blade looks really cool. Thanks for posting the picture.

Thanks also for the kind words. That Persson knife is one of my favorites. He's actually done some collaborations with Roger Bergh and they do have a similar style. There's something to be said about those Swedish makers, and I'll be sure to post a picture of the Johan Gustaffson knife when it comes in.

By the way, since you're in NY, perhaps I'll see you at the East Coast Custom Knife show in March. Roger Bergh and a whole bunch of other European makers came down last year, and I'm hoping for an even better turn out this time around.

Satin & Wulf,

Thanks, I like it already, there's a lot of knowledge on these boards to soak up.

What with work and all I might not be able to make it to the knife show but I'm planning to attend if possible. I'm saving for a knife already though, but I'm sure I'll have a good time just "window shopping".

Hi Jose:
Welcome to the forums!! This is a really nice place to be, w/good discussions, and really nice folks.
All those knives look great!! I love the top Schempp knife. I remember seeing that type at the Oregon shows...really nice. Plus, a nicer guy you just cannot find!!! (Genuine is a good adjective.)
Again, WELCOME!!!

Welcome, Jose. I'm always happy to see another fellow NYC knifenut. You really should try to make the ECCKS in March, as Wulf suggested. In addition to all the great shiny toys, it's always great to meet other forumites in person. Thanks for sharing the pix of your awesome knives. Here are pix of some of mine in an ever-changing collection.

It's nice to see another New York Knifenut here, and an Ed Fowler owber to boot.

Here's mine.

Hey Ed and Ang,

Hope you're both doing well. I like these forums, lots of knife people and plenty of pics of custom knives and good discussion. I don't feel comfortable jumping into the more technical aspects of knifemaking, but this is a good place to learn.

Brian, Phil & Examon: Thanks for the welcome. I sure hope to make the show this March. Phil, I wasn't able to view the pic of your knife unfortunately, I'm getting a message saying I'm restricted from entering that server. :(

WOW! That Ed Schempp number is something! I love the shape- it reminds me of the old Turkish swords (Yataghans). I bet that puppy chops like nobody's business!

Welcome to BF.
