Hello All,
Well, Mrs. Martino came through for me- again!
This morning I went to the Post Office for the usual- junk mail, bills, and magazines... Waiting for me, was my latest addtion to my collection... I didn't even wait to get home to open the box... Just put down my mail, and opened my package with a small CRKT folder I keep on my key chain...
The knife was residing snugly in its scabbard (though it's not a Khukuri or sword), blade lightly coated with oil/preservative. When I showed it to my buddy at the window, he loved the beautifully carved handle... I admit, it not only looks good, it feels good...
When I got home, I cleaned it up, and then really began to look at it... It's without flaw, and sharp... Balance is perfect- resting easily in the hand, the C.O.G. is at the forward end of the bolster. Nice, really nice...
As a companion piece to the JKM-1, also by Kumar, it's magnificent. Talk about a one-two punch! I've always "liked" small knives, but for these two, I'll make an exception... I LOVE these little blades!!!
The scabbard of Kumar's Karda is what we're familiar with, same design as those carrying Khukuris... The smaller JKM-1 has a sheath similar to those carrying fillet knives. Basically a cylinder that tapers down to the point... Both are functional, and well made...
Come to think of it, this makes THREE blades by Kumar, counting in my new 18" Chilangi... Small, medium, or large, the works by Kumar are a delight...
I hope that I'll be able to collect more of his superb work, as time goes by...
Between the Khukuris and the Puukkos, I'm a very happy man... Big knives, little knives- and fabulous quality and service tossed in... Thank-you, Mrs. Martino. You really know how to make folks happy...
I don't know how soon I'll be going back to the "big ones," but I'm going to look more closely into the "little ones" for a while... That "Pen-Knife" looks mighty intriguing to me... The Bilton Khukuri, the Seax, and Bura's New Model, all are quite interesting... I've probably missed some of them, and no doubt there are those that have come and gone not on the website...
Maybe if more of us get interested in the "little ones," more will be made... I certainly hope so... I'd rather have one of these "little ones," than anything of comparable size that's mass produced... Maybe it's the "soul" that makes the difference, for it's tha Kamis that give of themselves- not some machine...
Take care, have fun, and stay safe...
Carter
