I used to have an HI AK 15" and Sirupati 21" but its now down to this one M43. Was bought in 2003 from Uncle.

As you can see, its been used to chop logs, hack banana leaves, split roots in the ground. I've used it for everything. Its no safe queen and I am confident it is glad to serve it its capacity.

I'm contemplating buying another one as a dedicated home defense backup blade but cannot decide between another M43 and a Hanshe.

A faster blade is preferred for a backup blade to my M4 Benelli.

Thoughts?

Nice...nearly as nice as my M43 by Bura.

I'm even sold on the M43 for defense, but if you want a lighter blade you'd be well served with a 15" Sirupati or gelbu special, even a BAS would serve well.

There was an excellent Hanshee on the DOTD thread a day or two ago. They just don't thrust as fluidly.

I agree that the Hanshe does not thrust as fluidly as the M43, but I like both form and function in my tools. Both of these models look the best in my opinion.

Had a Sirupati, didn't like it or use it as much a I should so it went to a new home.

Since you already have an M43, the Hanshe will give you variety.

The Hanshes seem to run significantly lighter than the M43s for a given length, which is bound to make them faster in the hand. And the Hanshe is more of a dedicated fighter than the all-purpose M43.

The only downside to the Hanshe is if you have big hands. The handles run a bit narrow because they conform to the width of the narrow blade.

If it's a fast blade you want as a backup for home defense,my choice would be an AK bowie. At 21oz.+ or -,it would leave a hanshee or M43 in the dust.My .02 cents.Good luck.Joe.

Picked up the Hanshe from the 3/4 tax refund special. Thanks Auntie for great deal. Look forward to my first new HI in almost a decade. :p:D

Hanshe here. Thanks again Auntie for great deal and super fast shipping.

Very light and fast blade. Exactly what I am looking for in a backup blade. I'm not home right now so can't take a family picture yet.

Compared to my ZT fixed blade and AG Russell folder

Wow, it really is like a thinner M43 isn't it? I don't know that I'd trade my Gelbu for one but it really is nice.

I don't train with handguns nor have any interest to. I cannot hit the backside of a barn with a 9mm at 25 yards but I'm decent with the shotgun. The Hanshe would be a backup weapon option to my shotgun. Even with a 18.5 inch barrel, its rather big for room to room maneuvering, so a fast handy melee weapon I am familiar with is a comforting sidearm alternative.
why would you want a home defense blade when you have a shotgun?

I have a 20 inch Kobra. Not heavy at only 22 oz.

Kobra on top. 18 inch 30 ounce Ang Khola on bottom.
