Hello Fella's! Thought I'd share a few photo's of the last knife I did that is now entered in to the Bushcraft Knife Competition over in the WSS sub forum. :D

IIRC it started life as a 1.25"x 3/16" 1095 flat stock, I ground this one due to time constraints. a 4.5" blade, Green Canvas scales, Red fiber liners, Brass pins and tube. HT was done in my coal forge, 3 normalization cycles, 4th trip up quenched in Houghton 11 sec. :D

lol well what do y'all think? critiques welcome, and appreciated. It was my first time working canvas micarta. I normally stick with horn, antler and wood. The red liner was a pita for me after the epoxy set up, it didn't want to cut for nothing! I was trying to trim that lil piece on the right side with a razor but it was laughing off the razor!

I like your material choice. Green canvas is great, and always looks good with red liners. Can't argue with 1095, either. I think with a dark blade like that, the brass was the right choice as well. I like a coal forged knife, too.

As critique, I'd say the front of your scales look pretty rough. You want to treat them like bolsters, match them and clean 'em up before installation. I like your rustic etching, looks like drawn with wax resist, then etched. The corner of your mask confuses the top of your plunge cut a bit. Also, the filing on the spine looks a bit uneven from the side and a bit sharp perhaps to the unwary thumb. Also, the choil area looks a bit gnarly.

As a whole, I think it has definite appeal and a lot going for it; the grip shape in particular looks like it'd fit the hand well. I'd carry it around. I hope you use more micarta, when I started out making knives I liked natural materials much better. Now I mostly prefer the stability, working characteristics and good looks of the synthetics. They grow on you.

Thanks Salem, I completely agree with you about the front of the scales and thanks for the tip on them. I'll definitely do that next time. I got a few more black linen micarta scale sets and one more green canvas. The etch was done with Sharpie and vinegar though not bees wax. I appreciate the response though :)
