My latest acquisition, the mighty BK5, and it's first cut.

My new BK5 came in the mail today.
Unfortunately I got home a little too late to really play with my new blade.
However, I did plan on taking a short walk around my property to check my trailcams, and throw out some corn for the deer, so I took the 5 along.

I took a picture of it while it was fresh and pretty before I cut anything and blemished the finish.

I knew I had some small brush to clean up in front of one of my cameras, and I wanted to feel how sharp the factory edge was before I did any chopping.

My hands were a little full as I clumsily drew the blade from it's sheath, but I did get to test how sharp it was and make it's first cut all in one shot.

It was pretty sharp!

Not the first time one of my Beckers bit me, and probably won't be the last.:D
At least I didn't need stitches this time.

Ouch please be careful! You should have tested sharpness on something a bit harder. (Sorry had to put that in)
:)
Congrats on your new BK5!

At least my 5 didn't bite me anywhere near as hard as my BK-2 did.

Can't wait to see what else this knife can do.
Looking forward to talking it on many adventures in the years to come.

Congrats on you new BK5 - my favorite Becker.

It woudl appear as though you have already gotten to know each other intimately.

Nice.... I got 11 stitches on my 3rd 4th and 5th fingers...the cut happened about two miles from the nearest road... bk14 was sharp hahaha.... not my fault tho but yeah stitches are no fun lol

Couldn't have been that bad if you had the presence of mind to set up the photo before wiping the blood off....damn. Time for a sheath upgrade for one-handed draw....hard to cut yourself when you're holding only the handle ;).

No, wasn't that bad it bled a lot for a small cut.
I'd definitely like to get another sheath for it someday, but I would have had the same outcome on that day.
Rather than strapping on the sheath, I had it in my hand, with a bag of corn tucked under my arm.
I carelessly drew the knife while I was walking and didn't notice the skin between my thumb and hand was a bit too high on the sheath.
It was just a bit ironic that I only drew the blade to feel how sharp it was. Not the way I planned on feeling the sharpness though.

I hear ya. Maybe it's force of habit, but even if I'm just carrying a sheathed knife around (like in a tool bag or under my arm) I'll still one-hand it and let the sheath just fall to the ground.....oh, well. 20/20 hindsight and all. At least with most Kydex rigs it's just a thumb push - spine side. Not tryin' to browbeat or nuthin', just glad you're OK - and back around these parts.

Your right, it definitely could have been easily avoided.

When I do upgrade the sheath, kydex will be the way to go.
I could almost live with the stock sheath if it were a better fit, and didn't rattle around so much.
Not that I'm complaining, this knife was a heck of a bargain and the sheath is a shortcoming I could live with.

I'd like to upgrade the scales too. I haven't kept the grivory on my other Beckers for long.

A BK5 was my first Becker as well, and while I was at the knife shop and went to put it back in the sheath, I accidentally tapped the end of my finger - right next to the nail - on the blade while doing so. It cut me as well.

As soon as I saw this thread, I thought, "what, a finger?"

Close.

So you are not alone! Enjoy that fine knife, good choice.
