Here's my latest which I'm quite proud of because it's one of the few I've forged that ended up with no cracks at all. I have a habit of forging too cold to cut down on scale growth.

Anyway, this is a design I've been thinking about for some time. Sorry for the fuzzy pic, my camera's cheap and old. It's obviously (at least I hope) scalpel-based. The deep belly is for skinning or draw cuts of any kind really. I even think it would be good for very close quarters self defence where a larger knife would be hard to bring into play. Forged from 1/2" round O1. 6" overall, blade is around 2" depending on how you measure it. Handle is 1/4" thick and about 3/8" wide. I filed four grooves all the way around the handle for grip and decoration. Cleaned 'em up with the Dremel. The finish is 320 grit, I used a wire wheel to bring out the shine which incedentally also brought out the hamon. There are a couple of stubborn light scratches that I couldn't remove but rather than grind it any thinner I decided to leave them. Probably no one but me would find them anyway.

All in all I'm very happy with my progress both as a forger and a maker in general. I probably only put 16 - 18 hours of work into it over five days and that was mostly because I used dull belts because I'm a cheapskate. My first knife took me three months of fiddling.

Now I just need to make a sheath with one of those rare earth magnets I spent an hour digging out of harddrives. What kind of sheath do you guys think I should make? Neck, boot, belt? I'm torn. Ideally, I'd like it to be concealable and easily accessed.

I'm gonna hate to part with this one but I plan on selling it when the sheath is done. Everything went right with this one. That's a good feeling isn't it?

Very nice knife, I like the deep belly. It looks like a mean cutter. I would probably make it a belt sheath, it just looks like it would carry most comfortably that way. I hope you don't mind, I just want to make this a bit easier to see so I've linked it in thread.

Thanks Kurt. I didn't know yet how BF filed attached pics.

I think I will make a belt sheath. O1 isn't a good choice for a neck knife and I wouldn't trust it to ride in my boot. That leaves the question: horizontal or vertical carry?

I guess I still need to sharpen it. If someone actually buys it they may want it to cut things. Also, I don't know where I got the idea that an all-steel handle would be a good idea. I HATE hand rubbing steel. It takes forever and has to be the most boring part of knifemaking.

Thanks guys. I went through a fortune in steel before I got it right. When I started, I forged way too hot - my first blade kind of dripped to the ground. Then I forged too cold causing a lot of hairline cracks. Now I think I've got it just right.

Also I greatly prefer forging from round stock over flat because I can control how thick it is and where.
