Finished this one recently. I completely took it apart, cleaned the blade a bit and reprofiled it. I cleaned and polished all the hardware. Replaced the leather washer handle and put everything back together tight. I dyed the new handle saddle tan and put a polish on it. Added a new reproduction sheath that I made and I think she's ready to go another 70 years or more.

Thank you cbach8tw.

These were made so well. Excellent design. Its a pleasure and an honor to work on one. A true combat fighter. Not for opening crates or hammering nails.

I've got one handed down from my uncle, who served in the Pacific. How'd you do that handle? Has to have been taken apart and new leather installed.

Yes polaskij, the entire knife has to be disassembled in order to install new leather. I take the opportunity to refinish the guard and pommel pieces as well. The blade can also then be easily cleaned, resurfaced and reprofiled as desired. I like mine to retain some of the aged character. Always nice to start off with a decent blade but most of these I find have been used and abused. Oh well, more fun in the process.
