Here's a big one I just made. Had a hankerin for a big bruiser and this is what I came up with. My Wife says it looks like I added a Bowie blade to my HoodlumII handle. I think she might be right although I wasn't thinking of it like that :) The steel is 5160 and the scales are black G10.

Looks good to me! With the NECKA hammerin coming up, I need to make and finish a big mother chopper in the next week or so....the clock is running! I have a big hunk of 1/4'" 5160 to use.

Did you clay coat, edge quench, or fully harden a big chopping blade like that? I am trying to decide how to differentially harden 5160 and am not a steel expert enoght o know if it will deeply harden like O-1 and not accept clay as well, or if an edge quench would be best, or if I should just draw the spine with a torch with the edge submerged....

Got a top pic of the handle shape?

Thats a nice lookin chopper. Simple yet very effective looking I am sure it'll do great.

This one is differentially hardened. The method I use is to only heat up the edge before quenching. Makes for nice but straight hamons :) I don't have a top pic for ya right now but the slabs are 1/4in thick and most of the contour is along the perimeter of the handle. I have shaped em so they aren't blocky though :)
