I refurbished my Dad's pre 1960 Ka-Bar Hunter.

I have been waiting to try my hand at tooling in order to get this sheath done. I gave it a shot over the last day or so - and got a chance to finish it tonight. I need to put a Dangler on this one - but I wanted to post the pics while I had the camera out.

Here is a close up of the burnishing on the edge. I used a black dye on the edge to get it to pop a little more.

I think it turned out pretty well. I will have to learn a lot more to be more than just a basic leather tooler.

looks good to me, nice work on both the sheath and the knife

Clean job there, nicely done!

Pretty good job right there!

Just "tooled" a sheath last week for the first time myself; You have your nice leather piece all carefully measured and then you bang steel tools on it...scary as hell  Your's turned out much better than mine

Your tooling impressions would be much sharper if you cased the leather prior to stamping. The overall appearance is very good!! ---Sandy---

Sandy,

I did case the leather before I stamped - they are fairly deep -I think the camera lights are washing them out a bit. I have been experimenting with how much water is 'enough' while casing. It is an art for sure.

Ooooops!!!! Sorry, my friend, I did not consider the light angle. I would very much like to see pics of some other sheaths you have consructed. ---Sandy Morrissey---

Sandy,

No apology needed - All comments are welcome. I had to go back and compare this one with ones I knew had good stamping. It is a little lighter - I think I have a LOT to learn. ;)

Thanks,

TF
