I'm pretty new here, and fairly new to blade making. The other day I got this urge to make a Spartan sword. Made from Aldo's 1/4' 1095 steel. 29" oal, and just under 3lbs. Just thought I would share.

Haven't seen anything quite like that before, looks nice. 3 pounds is a bit hefty though, my guess would be the point of balance is a bit too far up the blade.

It is a forward balance with the idea of puttin more momentum in the swing for easier head removal. :D

The blade style didn't exist historically, but that's a pretty sweet adaptation of the Frank Miller fantasy design. Looks more like a tactical chopper than a sword in my honest opinion, due to the extreme thickness and forward balance. More of a weaponized tool than a dedicated sword. I don't mean that as a negative comment toward your work, but rather my opinion of the classification of your creation. A sword would have different handling characteristics than what that piece seems best suited for. :)

I like it. Very 300esque. 3 lbs might be a bit much for me, but spartan warriors carried a shield that I've heard weighed 30, so probably fine for them.

I don't take offense at all FourtyTwoBlades. I didn't make it with any specific duty assignment at all...just for fun, and to see if I could do it. Once it's treated...I'll see about taking down an oak tree about 8" in diameter that's been bugging me for a couple years. We'll see how she holds up.

If that's the plan it should work fine then.

I would encourage you to try some thinner stock like 3/16" and distal taper. Just my two cents but I think you would be pleasantly surprised at the results. If you intend to start selling these I think you would find business without too much trouble.
