Hi there,
I'm a new to the forum but I don't see an introduction forum anywhere. If this is in the worng place please feel free to move it Mods. I'm a new South African knife maker, I've always been one to make things with my hands. I studied art at college and was interested in doing jewellery manufacturer but ended up doing ceramics and printmaking instead. I've been part of many creative hobbies, from leather work to gemstone faceting to well knife making and everything in between. I work at a high end jewellery store in our town as a salesman with a dream of one day working in the workshop. For now though I work in my own workshop and since making jewellery would be conflict of interest I rather focus on pocket jewellery (knives). I love folding knives and I love art knives, I also have a great appreciation for gentleman's folders so at this stage this is the direction my work is going into. For the last 3 weeks we have been on lockdown for Covid 19 so I have gotten a lot more time to work on my knives. Unfortunately I did run out of some supplies so I have had to make a plan to make do with what I do have available to me at the moment. These are my first two knives I've made in lockdown so far and plan on starting my next one today.

The guitar inspired knife has a guitar string Damascus that I made myself in my makeshift forge. I drew inspiration for making the steel from Greenbeetle knives on YouTube. I consider myself to be a stock remover but this was an interesting experience and really made me appreciate the time and effort that goes into making your own steel.

Nice work, very much something new. I like the guitar theme. Also non matching handles with a garnet is sweet. I never quite understand the obsession with sides that are identical, two canvases should mean two concepts joined by one mind. Do they cut and function well? How hard is the damascus?

My friend is an artist who uses found materials for things like paintings, sculpture, neon, jewelry, even chairs. Don’t let the fact you work in a jewelry store inhibit you.

Thank you, they function well but I have not yet sharpened the, I'll probably do that last week of lockdown. The Damascus hardened nicely unfortunately I don't have a Rockwell testing kit but a file scatted on the blade after quenching. The only thing about my work is that I don't get much time in my workshop as I would like to. As a result it takes me months to build a knife. Lockdown has been very good for me in that sense. I'm currently busy with my 3rd lockdown knife but it will probably be the last one I'm able to do as I have run out of grinding belts.

I use an iPhone and can load pics from it.
Take a pic with the camera, NOT directly to the post.
Generally you need to edit, i.e, rotate or size it down to make it fit.
Imgur is also a good photo host.

I tried the camera icon but it just runs a black bar and then nothing pops up so looks like no luck for Android.
